U-turn from Renault: Plan to sell only electric cars cancelled

Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive stated that they plan to offer electric and gasoline hybrid cars in all segments for the next 10 years. This means that Renault has cancelled its plan to sell only electric cars in Europe starting from 2030.

The automotive industry had accelerated its electric transition over the last few years. However, due to lower-than-expected demand, many brands have had to revise their plans to bid farewell to internal combustion engines. This situation has led car companies to re-evaluate their strategies for transitioning to electric vehicles. It appears that Renault has also changed its plans within this framework.

In an interview with Automotive News at the Geneva International Motor Show, Cambolive stated that their company has adopted a strategy of having a dual approach across all car segments. Within the framework of this strategy, he expressed that they plan to offer both hybrid and fully electric models in a wide range, from small city cars to D-segment vehicles.

In fact, Renault had announced its plan to offer only fully electric models in 2022. However, Cambolive's statements indicate that the company has postponed its plans for the transition to electric cars until at least 2034.
