Nissan has recently faced significant criticism. The announcement that the phone app will no longer be usable on older electric Leaf models in the UK has sparked a backlash from drivers. Although the company insists that this decision is not of their own making, some Leaf drivers are expressing their disappointment, stating that the firm failed to provide prior notification.

It is suggested that the development regarding the app's unavailability in vehicles produced before 2016 stems from the planned shutdown of 2G networks in the UK. Since the 2G network, which forms the technological infrastructure of older Leaf models, will no longer be available, the app connectivity for these vehicles will also cease.

While this decision is expected to affect approximately 3,000 Leaf owners in the UK, some are expressing that trust in Nissan may diminish. The company stated that the decision will take effect from April 1, but noted that certain functions, such as climate control, are integrated into the vehicle and will continue to work.

Max Siegieda, an owner of a 2013 model Leaf, stated that many important features, which were among the reasons he purchased the vehicle, will disappear, and noted that the decision came much earlier than expected.

David Morris, an owner of a 2014 model Leaf, said he was dissatisfied with this sudden decision, stating that app support should have continued for at least 10 years. Experts emphasize that similar situations may increase in the future and that older model cars may struggle to adapt to new technologies.
