Tesla's Cybercab launch date set! This vehicle has no steering wheel

The launch date for Tesla’s long-awaited autonomous vehicle, the Cybercab, has been finalized. The company will showcase the two-seater vehicle, which lacks traditional driving controls such as a steering wheel and pedals, at a special event to be held in Austin on September 3.

It was stated that the event will be open to invitees but can also be followed via a live stream. Tesla’s event invitations emphasized that participants will be offered the opportunity to “experience the future of fully autonomous driving.”

The Cybercab is planned to be put into service in Austin via Tesla’s existing Robotaxi application. The vehicle is positioned as a model focused on lower weight, high efficiency, and urban use within the company’s driverless transportation vision.

KEY FEATURES OF THE CYBERCAB

Designed as a two-seater, the Cybercab does not have a steering wheel or pedals. This choice indicates that the vehicle was developed with the goal of fully autonomous use, while also allowing for a lighter electric vehicle architecture.

According to regulatory filings submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the vehicle’s weight is approximately 3,113 pounds. This figure makes the Cybercab about 700 pounds lighter than the lightest Model 3.

The vehicle features a 219-horsepower permanent magnet motor placed in the front and a 48 kWh battery pack. While the model offers a range of 418 miles according to EPA tests, it is expected to provide a range in the 290 to 300-mile range under real-world driving conditions.

Tesla first launched its Robotaxi service in Austin in June 2025. The company has a goal of expanding this service to states such as California, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida. It is stated that Robotaxi operations are currently active in Texas and Florida.

The approval granted by the Nevada Transportation Authority for commercial robotaxi service in Clark County is also seen as an important step for Tesla’s expansion plans. The permit in question paves the way for the company to deploy up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles in the first 12 months.
