White is no longer the most preferred car color in Turkey

While one in every two new cars purchased in Turkey in 2018 was white and 21.7 percent were gray, the color preference of vehicle owners has changed as of the end of August this year.

White is no longer the most preferred car color in Turkey

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of motor vehicles in the country reached 27 million 987 thousand 472 as of the end of August.

The number of automobiles was recorded as 14 million 892 thousand 825, minibuses as 497 thousand 754, buses as 210 thousand 17, small trucks as 4 million 425 thousand 284, trucks as 948 thousand 331, motorcycles as 4 million 767 thousand 37, special purpose vehicles as 90 thousand 789, and tractors as 2 million 155 thousand 435.

GRAY HAS REPLACED WHITE AS THE TOP CAR COLOR

According to the latest data, the most preferred car colors in Turkey are ranked as follows:

Gray: 34.1%
White: 29.2%
Orange: 2.4%
Brown: 0.6%
Other: 33.7%

1 IN EVERY 3 NEW CARS IS GRAY

The preference rate for white cars, which was 55.6% in 2018, experienced a significant decline, falling to 29.02% in 2023. On the other hand, sales of gray vehicles rose from 21.7% to 29.2% during the same period. According to this data, gray cars have surpassed white for the first time to take the top spot.

BROWN AND YELLOW ARE THE LEAST PREFERRED COLORS

Among the cars transferred in August, the most preferred colors after gray and black were blue with 76 thousand 371 cars, black with 66 thousand 598 cars, and red with 46 thousand 590 cars, respectively. Among the least preferred car colors were brown with 3 thousand 407 and yellow with 3 thousand 817.
