It has been claimed that the debate regarding the headscarf ban reportedly implemented in schools in Azerbaijan has led to diplomatic tension on the Ankara-Baku line.
According to a report by Middle East Eye journalist Ragıp Soylu, the Azerbaijani administration requested that Ankara dismiss Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral following his statements opposing the obstruction of the right to education for students wearing headscarves.
The report claims that the request in question was confirmed by three officials and a source with knowledge of the matter. It was stated that Saral's remarks caused discomfort within the Baku administration and that this discomfort was conveyed to Ankara.
The same report also stated that the Azerbaijani administration requested that Turkey take action against certain social media commentators who allegedly insulted President İlham Aliyev.
According to the claim, Baku also sent a list of social media accounts it wants banned to Ankara. There has been no statement reflected to the public from official authorities regarding the matter.
