Claim that 'AKP's Ankara and Istanbul candidates have been finalized!' Who will run against İmamoğlu and Yavaş?

As the local elections approach, political parties have accelerated their efforts.

While the doors to alliances have completely closed on the opposition front, the AKP aims to regain the metropolitan municipalities it lost in 2019, primarily Istanbul and Ankara.

CHP'S IMM CANDIDATE IS İMAMOĞLU

The CHP has nominated incumbent mayors Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş as candidates for Istanbul and Ankara in the local elections on March 31, 2024. It is eagerly awaited which names the AKP will field against İmamoğlu and Yavaş.

Turgut Altınok FINALIZED IN ANKARA

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz covered the AKP's Istanbul and Ankara candidates in his column today.

According to Saymaz, the joint candidacy of Keçiören Mayor Turgut Altınok in Ankara has been finalized. 

2 CANDIDATES IN ISTANBUL: ALİ YERLİKAYA AND MEHMET ERGÜN TURAN

In Istanbul, it is stated that Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has a 70 percent chance, while Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan has a 30 percent chance. However, Saymaz noted that Yerlikaya is lukewarm about the candidacy.

Stating that "Yerlikaya being from Konya and having no connection to Istanbul other than his governorship is a disadvantage," Saymaz shared his view that "I wouldn't be surprised if Ergün Turan pops up as a surprise at the last minute."
