New Welfare Party (YRP) Chairman Fatih Erbakan announced that they would not form an alliance with the AKP in the local elections. However, it is still being discussed that there is a possibility of an alliance between the two parties. According to political insiders, the stance of the DEM Party will be influential in the decision Erbakan will make.

Alliance negotiations between the AKP and the New Welfare Party had concluded negatively, and the New Welfare Party had announced that they would field their own candidates in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. Chairman Erbakan pointed to February 10 for the announcement of the candidates.

One day before the announcement of the candidates, YRP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Mustafa Doğan emphasized in his statement to GazeteDuvar that there is currently no alliance with the AKP, saying, "24 hours is a long time in politics. It is difficult to predict what will happen."

According to information obtained by 12punto from New Welfare Party sources who have known Erbakan for many years, the DEM Party will be the deciding factor in the decision Erbakan will make. According to the information obtained, if the DEM Party fields a candidate in Istanbul, the New Welfare Party may also field a candidate. If the DEM Party does not field a candidate, the New Welfare Party will not field one either. The desire not to be the party that causes the AKP to lose and the desire not to fall into the position of the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi) will be influential in this decision.
