‘Framework Law’ rift in the Yeni Yol Group: Resignation of 3 MPs on the agenda
The proposal passed by the TBMM Justice Commission has created a disagreement within the Yeni Yol Group. The resignation of 3 MPs who supported the regulation is being discussed.
The legislative proposal accepted by the TBMM Justice Commission, known in the public eye as the “Framework Law,” has sparked debate within the Yeni Yol Group. According to reports from the corridors, while 17 of the 20 MPs in the group oppose the regulation, 3 MPs have taken a stance in favor of the proposal.
The 12-article regulation, prepared under the title “Draft Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration,” is expected to be discussed in the General Assembly. It is stated that the differing stance regarding the proposal has brought about a debate on political positioning within the Yeni Yol Group.
It is alleged that the support given to the regulation by Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya, İzmir MP Mustafa Bilici, and Bursa MP Kani Torun has caused discomfort within the group. For this reason, it is being discussed that the three MPs may leave the group.
It has also been suggested that the split is linked to political contacts reportedly being conducted between Yeni Yol and the Yeniden Refah Party. In the corridors, it is claimed that the negative approach of Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan toward the proposal has been influential in the stance taken by Yeni Yol.
While it is alleged that the Yeni Yol Group took a position against the proposal so that potential political cooperation talks would not be harmed and to avoid tension with Erbakan, no official statement has been made regarding the future political steps of the three MPs.
