IMM concerns and the Mansur Yavaş debate in CHP! 'It is not sustainable...'

The situation during the deputy mayor election process in Menderes Municipality has brought potential scenarios regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality back to the agenda in CHP corridors.

Party officials interpreted the fact that the municipal administration passed to the AKP due to the inability to reach a consensus with the YENİ Party in Menderes, İzmir, as an example that should be evaluated carefully for Istanbul as well.

"IMM MUST REMAIN UNDER CHP CONTROL"

According to the pro-government Türkiye Gazetesi, evaluations within the CHP recalled that if the sentence given in the case known as the "Fool case" against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is upheld by the Court of Cassation, a new election process for the mayorship could come to the agenda. Pointing out that the arithmetic in the municipal council would be decisive in such a possibility, officials stated, "We hope we do not end up in such a situation. We would be very saddened, but being sad does not change anything. If something happens to the IMM, the municipality must remain under CHP control."

Within the party leadership, the view emerged that the process in Menderes was not managed correctly and that a similar risk could have much greater consequences in Istanbul. Officials commented, "The IMM is not like Menderes. We need to show more attention and care there."

EXPECTATION OF VISIBILITY FOR YAVAŞ

Another topic that has come to the agenda in CHP corridors is the position of Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş within the party.

It is stated that CHP officials are closely monitoring Yavaş's recent quiet and neutral image. While it is expressed that there is no general discomfort or concern regarding Yavaş within the party leadership, the view that his political position should be revealed more clearly stands out.

CHP sources argue that Yavaş should be more visible at political events as the party's mayor. In the evaluation within the party leadership, the following statements were included: "We do not have any general discomfort or concern regarding Mayor Mansur. However, he needs to clarify his political affiliation. If he is a CHP mayor, he should attend CHP events and be seen. His current quiet and neutral stance is not sustainable."
