Will Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya be a candidate for Istanbul?
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi addressed the discussions regarding whether Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya will be the AKP's mayoral candidate for Istanbul. Yerlikaya, however, had denied the claims.
Meeting with Ankara representatives of newspapers in Ankara, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made evaluations regarding the operations.
Hürriyet Columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote an article regarding whether Yerlikaya would be the AKP's candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
Selvi stated the following:
"Ali Yerlikaya has a lot of work to do as Minister of Interior. The next 4-5 months are especially critical. But he also captured a good synergy with the Istanbul electorate. He served as the Governor of Istanbul. For that reason, his name is being mentioned for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the local elections. A colleague of ours asked about this issue. Ali Yerlikaya gave a short and clear answer, saying, 'There is no such thing on our agenda.' I had also sounded him out before. He gave nothing away."
President Erdoğan is also looking for a candidate who will win in Istanbul. Let's see who that name will be?"
YERLİKAYA HAD DENIED IT
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya had responded to the claims of an İBB candidacy, stating that there was no such situation as a candidacy.
