Turkish Airlines begins share negotiations with Air Europa
Turkish Airlines has announced that it is conducting non-binding negotiations regarding the acquisition of shares in the Spanish airline Air Europa. The disclosure of information to the public has been delayed due to the uncertainty of the process.
Turkish Airlines (THY) has confirmed that it is in talks to acquire shares from the Spanish company Air Europa Holding S.L.U. THY stated that it continuously evaluates growth opportunities to strengthen its position in the global aviation sector and increase its competitiveness. In this context, it was stated that non-binding negotiations are ongoing to examine investment opportunities in Air Europa and to identify potential partnership synergies.
In a statement made by THY to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), it was noted that in accordance with the Board of Directors' decision dated May 29, 2025, the disclosure of information that could affect investors' decisions has been postponed due to the current stage of the process and the uncertainties it involves. It was emphasized that this postponement was made to protect the legitimate interests of the partnership, in accordance with the relevant communiqué of the Capital Markets Board.
The statement also expressed that necessary measures have been taken to maintain the confidentiality of the information during the postponement period and that any new developments that could affect investors' decisions will be shared with the public.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST?
It had been alleged that Turkish Airlines was considering submitting a bid to acquire a minority stake in Air Europa. It is stated that investors are required to submit their binding offers by the beginning of July. This interest from THY had previously been reported in the newspaper El Español. Additionally, it is known that Air France-KLM and Lufthansa have also held talks with the Globalia holding, the owner of Air Europa, for share acquisitions. THY generates a significant portion of its revenue from Europe and already has a codeshare agreement with Air Europa.
