Yemeksepeti founder Nevzat Aydın falls ill, hospitalized

Businessman Nevzat Aydın, who attended the Entrepreneurship and Investment Panel held in Trabzon today under the slogan "We Must Do Something!" as a speaker, fell ill. Following initial intervention, Aydın was taken to the Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) Farabi Hospital and admitted for treatment.

The Entrepreneurship and Investment Panel was held today at noon at the KTÜ Atatürk Cultural Center under the slogan "We Must Do Something!". The opening speeches of the panel were delivered by Ortahisar Mayor Ahmet Kaya, Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TTSO) President Erkut Çelebi, and investor Nevzat Aydın. An unexpected incident occurred at the end of the panel, which was followed with interest regarding entrepreneurship and investment topics.

WHO IS NEVZAT AYDIN?

Nevzat Aydın is the co-founder and former CEO of Yemeksepeti.com. Born on March 8, 1976, in Istanbul, Aydın is currently 45 years old. He took on the role of CEO as a partner of Yemeksepeti.com in 2001. He stepped down from his position as CEO on November 1, 2021. In 2015, the company was acquired by Delivery Hero, the world's largest online food ordering platform, for 589 million dollars, marking the largest valuation at that time.

After graduating from Boğaziçi University's Department of Computer Engineering, Nevzat Aydın received a special scholarship for Boğaziçi graduates in the USA and began his MBA studies in Business and Economics at the University of San Francisco.

His first project, which he realized at the age of 21, was to take a group of 700 people to a U2 concert in Thessaloniki, Greece. During his student years, he worked as an intern at many corporate companies.

While pursuing his master's degree in San Francisco, he had the opportunity to closely observe start-up businesses in Silicon Valley. He focused his interest particularly on food ordering models and decided to launch a venture in this field by developing a model specific to Turkish consumers. Six months before finishing his MBA, he left school and returned to Istanbul to bring this venture to life.

He stepped down from his position at Yemeksepeti, where he had served as CEO since 2001, on November 1, 2021.

He was ranked first on Fortune magazine's "40 Under 40" list in 2013 and 2015.

In 2020, he founded GEN Turkey, the Turkish branch of the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), which operates in 178 different countries, and served as its chairman of the board.
