It shouldn't go on like this!

In three weeks, we have lost 22 martyrs in northern Iraq; fire has fallen into 22 homes, but all of our hearts are burning. Our young children—let's not say 'it is unclear who or what they serve' —have been sacrificed to a terror whose purpose and masters are, quite frankly, very clear.

Those with even a slight grasp of politics know very well who feeds on the blood of martyrs.

Anyone with a bit of common sense should understand that the PKK striking our soldiers before every election is no coincidence and carries a political objective.

When the CHP established contact with the DEM Party last week, I said to myself: 'Oh no, I hope the PKK doesn't attack again, I hope we don't lose more of our soldiers as martyrs.'

Unfortunately, my fears came true.

Now, as a society, we have reluctantly taken our seats to watch this dirty play, which has been staged repeatedly in the theater of politics for years.

The director is the same, the actors are the same, even the lines are the same!

Who knows for the how many-th time we will hear the same sentences, listen to the same demagoguery with the same intonations and the same emphases.

The traces of the trauma this process has created in society, but predominantly among the country's educated segment, do not seem likely to be erased for generations. 

That is why this sick vicious cycle needs to be broken now, one way or another. It is highly probable that it will reach a stage tomorrow where it can never be broken.

The one to do this is clear. The country's main opposition party, the CHP!

Unfortunately, the CHP does not have a wide political space before it to pressure the government on this issue, to expose its dirty games, to convince the voters who persistently and stubbornly refuse to see the facts as if they have night blindness, and to mobilize the masses. 

Its options are limited, but not non-existent. 

As Hannibal of Carthage said, if it cannot find a way to do this, it must make one. 

Let us underline this with a thick pen: the CHP bears a responsibility before history.

This cannot be done by cowering, fearing, taking steps backward, reversing course, mumbling words, or, to put it bluntly, by canceling a rally. 

It can only be done with self-confidence, by uncompromisingly upholding the country's founding values, the Constitution, and the constitutional order. 

Therefore, the CHP's "Oh, the government will attack us, they will come down hard on us" mentality, which led to the cancellation of the Constitution rally, was a grave mistake.

As long as the government continues to play it safe, it will keep playing with the CHP like a cat with a ball of yarn.

This could go on for ages.

And you, not knowing what to do or what to say, will keep trying to say something in a hushed voice until your throat is sore. 

But it's all in vain!

In the last few days, the CHP has fallen behind psychologically in the local election race. Yet, it was more or less obvious since entering the election period that the government would conduct its campaign by scratching the nationalist itch through issues of terrorism and security.

The main opposition party could not foresee this because it could not set aside its senseless panic. Even if it did foresee it, it could not do what was necessary and failed to position itself accordingly. 

Let's be clear: The CHP is unable to properly analyze mass psychology or the political behavior of the electorate, and it cannot make sound assessments.

Speaking on a news channel after the May 14-28 elections, Özgür Özel said, “We did not think the public would believe Erdoğan's claims that 'the CHP is acting together with terrorist organizations' or 'the CHP is on the same side as terrorist organizations,' or the edited footage showing Mr. Kemal with PKK members. We kept saying, 'This is too much, they won't believe this.' But after the election, we realized that the public had believed these things and taken them seriously.” he had said.

I was horrified when I heard these words.

It seems that in the CHP, the country's founding party and main opposition, there is no one competent enough to rationally analyze Turkish society, the political behavior of the country's social strata, or the motivations behind their voting.

For them to see that the public was influenced by the government's black propaganda and was inclined to believe every lie and falsehood about the CHP, it would have been enough for them to go out into the streets, visit the outskirts of major cities, or mingle with mosque congregations. 

But they didn't; they preferred social media bravado or They thought they could reach the voters through three or five so-called opposition news channels.

However, the CHP no longer has the luxury of making mistakes.

The government's game is clear, the players are clear, and their arguments are clear. The CHP must have the political capacity to neutralize this, or if it doesn't, it must urgently build this capacity and put it into action as soon as possible.

Otherwise, let us end our article by saying that after April 1st, we will be longing for the dystopia we are currently living in.
