The secret clauses of Lausanne!

They knew perfectly well that the Treaty of Lausanne had no secret clauses and that its term would not expire after 100 years, but they supported this lie behind the scenes.

After all, the CHP was ignoring the absurdity at hand, saying, “no one would believe something like this anymore.”

Those in power were making even Machiavelli look like a saint.

But a citizen came forward and asked CİMER. They received the answer that no such thing exists. Even though it was officially debunked, they kept up the enthusiasm, they kept up the hype!

They had once even believed that İsmet İnönü was a draft dodger.

They took full advantage of the tendency of people who have exhausted their hopes, have almost no expectations left in life, and who think they are suffering the torment of the grave in this world while having to live on pennies, to take refuge in a fantasy world. Some were already predisposed to believe it.

Then it was forgotten.

No one came out and asked, “so what happened to the secret clauses of Lausanne?”

After the mining disaster in İliç, Erzincan, on Tuesday, has any servant of God who voted for the AKP and believed that Turkey could not utilize its underground resources due to the secret clauses of Lausanne thought, “Hey friend, we were told our hands were tied, that we couldn't operate our mines. If so, what is this gold mine doing there?”

Let's refresh their memory. That mining company has been operating there since 2010.

I don't expect people who believe that there were no refrigerators, tractors, ultrasound devices, MRIs, or even ambulances in Turkey before the AKP to know that the country was actually freed from its shackles with the abolition of the capitulations in Lausanne, but I do wonder if they are looking at the disaster in İliç and asking themselves “what if.”

It is known that more mining exploration licenses have been issued since 2002 than in the entire republican period combined. There is nothing secret or hidden about it.

They continue at the expense of destroying the country's air, water, stones, soil, streams, seas, forests, birds, and insects.

As long as the money comes in!

But the issue here is not the AKP or foreign companies.

What is truly thought-provoking is that my fellow citizens turn a blind eye to these crimes committed against their country and politically condone them.

Let's give credit where it's due; people have resisted and protested in the Black Sea, the Kaz Mountains, Akbelen, Bergama, Artvin, and many other places, showing their reactions and trying to make their voices heard as much as they could.

But it's not enough.

The vast majority of the public needs to hold the government accountable for this at the ballot box.

Are they doing it? No!

In the last election in Erzincan, where the disaster occurred, the vote for the AKP was 38.7 percent, and in İliç, it was 40.4 percent. In the 2019 local elections, 55.3 percent of the people of İliç voted for the AKP again.

There is a conservative majority in the district. However, the answer to the question of what and how the local people are preserving while the lands they live on are being plundered and handed over to foreigners remains up in the air.

It is understood that almost one in two people living in this district is satisfied with their situation and does not care that their children are breathing cyanide vapor.

It is alleged that the company operating the mine distributed 130,000 TL each to the local people to keep them from speaking out.

Whether it's true or false, who knows, but even if they distributed 130 billion TL, not 130,000, can a person sacrifice their children's health for money?
