Why did Donald Trump praise Ahmed Shara?

During his Middle East tour, US President Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed Shara in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Stating that the brief meeting went wonderfully, Trump said of Shara: “He is a young, attractive man. A tough man. He has a strong background. A warrior.” While this marked the first time in 25 years that a US president and a Syrian president have come together, Trump called on Shara to sign the Abraham Accords with Israel.

Since it is necessary to address the process of a terror-free Turkey, or in other words, the new opening process, in conjunction with developments in Syria, the US president's praise for the Syrian president must be examined from several angles.

We know that the new regime in Syria is in complete submission to the US and Israel. It can neither say no to Israel's occupation of the buffer zone, which goes beyond its occupation of the Golan Heights, nor can it object to the frequent bombing of Syrian territory.

While Israel constantly encourages and provokes Kurds and Druze in Syria to take steps toward independence, Syria remains completely silent. Moreover, the fact that the US invited Syria to sign the Abraham Accords with Israel is a cautionary tale in terms of demonstrating the Syrian administration's submission and helplessness.

Let us recall that Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, and Morocco are the Arab countries that have signed the Abraham Accords so far. If Syria also signs, the process will likely be further solidified with Saudi Arabia's signature.

In this context, the following words spoken by Ahmed Shara shortly after taking office are very important: “The new Syria does not pose a threat to Israel.”

Let us refresh our memory; among the reasons for the US and its allies bearing down on Syria was the question of which route the Middle East's rich energy resources would take to reach world markets. This is because Syria was objecting to projects that specifically bypassed Iran.

Its relations with Russia were good. It was supporting Hamas in Palestine and Hezbollah in Lebanon against Israel. Another significant reason for Syria being targeted was the US effort to undermine the Belt and Road Initiative, which China has been leading since 2013. This is because Syria was important in this context due to both its location in the Middle East and its coastline on the Mediterranean.

Let us remind you that Israel also wants independence for the Kurds in Iraq. When Barzani held a referendum for independence in northern Iraq in 2017, the message from Israel was, “If you declare your independence, we will recognize it immediately.” The close, deep ties of the Barzani family with the CIA and MOSSAD are well known. One of the first to write about these relations was Uğur Mumcu.

Mumcu addressed this issue in his article titled "MOSSAD and Barzani" (January 7, 1993, Cumhuriyet) and in many other writings.

According to Israel's plan regarding the Kurds of Iraq and Syria, both Iraq and Syria will be divided thanks to the Kurds of these two countries. A Kurdish state under Israel's influence will be established. A severe tension will be experienced between Kurds and Arabs. The Kurdish state will inevitably disturb Turkey and Iran greatly.

That is Israel's plan, but there is no guarantee that the Kurdish organizations in northern Iraq and the Kurdish organizations in northern Syria will not engage in a fierce power struggle among themselves. The US knows this very well, too. Because it knows this, it has been wanting Turkey to take the Kurds in the Middle East under its protection since the 1960s. It suggests that Turkey should grow to include the Kurds in the Middle East and consider a federation or confederation in this context. In any case, the US is imposing federalism over feudalism on Turkey.

While it is obvious that the remnants of the PKK terrorist organization, which has no influence left in Turkey and has dissolved itself, have already been engaging in politics in Turkey for years, the US is preparing the ground for the PYD-YPG terrorist organization in Syria to sign an agreement with Damascus and organize almost like a state within a state, with the following goal: To establish a Kurdish autonomous region in northern Syria, just as it did in northern Iraq. It aims to prevent Turkey, which once called a Kurdish state in Iraq or Syria a “casus belli,” or a cause for war, from opposing the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Syria. Just as it was prevented from opposing the Kurdish region in Iraq, and on the contrary, was ensured to support it.

The infrastructure for this is being created in Turkey as follows: Islamists and Ottomanists are told, 'Turkey is growing, it is expanding toward its old lands.'

Nationalists are told, 'Turkey has not been divided, Kurdistan has not been established, we are bringing the National Pact (Misak-ı Milli) to life.'

Kurdish nationalists and liberals are told, 'After northern Iraq, a Kurdish autonomous region has formed in northern Syria; be patient for a while, after some time these will become independent, Kurdistan will be established, and then it will be Iran's turn.'

The painful part of the matter is that in this process, the Turkmens in Iraq and Syria are not even mentioned, and the question of which country will be next after Iran is never even asked.
