Ankara’s double victory(!): Terrorist becomes 'Deputy Defense Minister'... Halkbank case postponed for 90 days

It was explained that the PKK/YPG/SDF terrorist organization in Syria, which the terrorist leader himself established and managed from Imralı, has agreed to integrate into the Damascus administration, thereby securing our country's south and ensuring the “terror-free Turkey” project continues without issues.

How did the PKK/YPG/SDF integrate into the Damascus administration?

Three days ago, the Syrian Ministry of Defense and state television announced that Sipan Hemo, one of the commanders of the SDF/YPG, had been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense.

Who is this Sipan Hemo?

His second name is Semir Asu, and his codename is Derviş Afrin...

He is the right-hand man of the terrorist leader Mazlum Kobani in Syria, meaning he is the number two in the organization...

Anything else?

During our Operation Olive Branch in 2018, he carried out the arming and organization there under the instructions of Qandil as the Afrin field commander. So much so that it was reported that the Maroon Berets were after him and that he would be neutralized.

We last heard his name again in January of last year when he requested security guarantees from the US and said, “Let Israel carry out airstrikes on the Syrian army in Syria on behalf of the Kurds.” The pro-government media claimed that Sipan Hemo was killed as a result of unidentified SİHAs (drones) targeting the organization's points in Qamishli.

However, it turned out he was not dead, thanks to the Damascus-SDF negotiations conducted under US mediation. Throughout that process, he always said that “they were fighting to build a decentralized Syria” and that “they were determined not to take a step back.”

Regarding the final agreement reached on January 30, he stated a month ago, “Kurds will now live in Syria as citizens with their own existence and identity. Our people in Kurdish regions will live with their own autonomy and uniqueness... Kurds will now govern themselves.” While saying this, he also explained how the SDF would be organized into 4 brigades:

“These brigades will be deployed in Derik, Qamishli, Hasakah, and Kobani. The three brigades in the Jazira region will be organized under a single center, that is, as a division. The Kobani brigade, however, will be administratively Kurdish and will remain affiliated with the Aleppo province. For this, everything from the command structure to the centers where the brigades will be deployed has been determined by us. Our forces will not remain in city centers. All these changes will be carried out through our initiative, within the framework of the general integration agreement. 90 percent of the military forces will consist of Kurds. The remaining 10 percent will consist of Syriacs and Arabs. In other words, it would not be wrong to say that the defense force will be a Kurdish force... Consequently, the internal security of the Kurdish regions will be protected by our forces.”

What does the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) say about this?

Here is the point we are coming to:

In the press briefing on February 5, MSB sources stated that they “welcomed the signing of a new agreement between the Syrian Government and the SDF on January 30 regarding integration,” that they “are closely following the process on the ground,” and after emphasizing once again the importance of “implementing the integration in a way that strengthens Syria’s unitary structure and the ‘one state, one army’ principle,” they noted the following:

“We assess that the assignments to be made within the scope of the integration process will be carried out based on the evaluations that the Syrian authorities will make with state wisdom and security investigations that will yield positive results.”

The Turkish translation of these diplomatic expressions was, “Do not appoint terrorists to certain positions.”

But as can be seen, a terrorist whom Turkey is searching for with a red notice and a 20 million lira reward has now officially become the Syrian Deputy Minister of Defense.

It seems that “our man” Colani/Shara did not listen to Ankara and make an “evaluation with state wisdom,” or the terrorist’s “security investigation” came back clean!..

Yesterday, there was another weekly press briefing at the MSB. However, neither the journalists asked about a terrorist becoming Deputy Minister of Defense, nor did the MSB sources provide an evaluation.

Not only the MSB, but there has been no sound from Erdoğan and other officials for three days.

In that case, congratulations!.. And also; imagine what kind of “status” the “founding leader” in Imralı will ask for after the number two of the YPG, which he himself had established in 2012, is brought to such a position!..

US Trustee for Halkbank

Simultaneously with that appointment in Syria, striking developments occurred in the Halkbank case, which was opened during Trump’s first presidency and has been hanging over Turkey like the sword of Damocles since 2019.

At the White House meeting on September 25, Erdoğan himself put Halkbank at the top of the list when listing the topics they would discuss.

According to two sources speaking to Reuters, Turkish officials had proposed settling the case for approximately 100 million dollars.

One month after the White House meeting, Halkbank asked the US Supreme Court to drop the charges, but it was rejected. Although a conference hearing to discuss important details regarding how the case would proceed was scheduled for January 27, the hearing was first postponed to an indefinite date, then to March 3, and finally to March 11.

As is known, in the meantime, the US-Israel began attacking Iran. Right in the middle of this turmoil, and three days before March 11, the US Department of Justice announced that an agreement had been reached in the Halkbank case.

Aside from the ambiguity of the agreement's content, while the timing itself was suspicious; it was emphasized that after the decision, Halkbank shares rose by 10 percent on the Istanbul stock exchange, reaching the daily maximum increase limit.

The pro-government media also ran headlines such as “Turkey’s power ended the case... Turkey’s diplomatic victory” and claimed, “The Halkbank case in the US concluded with a settlement. The bank will not pay any judicial or administrative fines.”

Moreover, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek said, “An agreement has been reached, the text is currently being translated. The process is very positive. Everything has been completed as we wanted. Especially here, it has been revealed that Halkbank is innocent. It is understood that it is an administrative matter, not a judicial case.”

The result?

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz announced that the case is not over, but suspended for 90 days under certain conditions, and explained what these conditions are as follows:

“Halkbank will hire an ‘anti-money laundering and compliance expert.’ This expert will provide communication with the authorities in America. He will examine all of Halkbank’s accounts. All information, documents, and records requested by the expert will be provided. Halkbank will stay away from the Iranian Government, Iranians, or related organizations. If a financial transaction request comes from Iran, it will be reported to America. Halkbank will waive all rights over Reza Zarrab’s assets. It will provide full cooperation in case the US freezes or seizes these assets. The expert will prepare his report within 90 days. If the expert’s report is negative, an explanation will be requested from Halkbank regarding the issue. If the explanation is not satisfactory, back to square one. The agreement is canceled. The case continues!”

While Yavuzyılmaz stated that in this direction, the AKP will continue to act as the executor of America’s Middle East policy, Hakan Atilla, the then-Deputy General Manager of Halkbank who served 28 months in prison in the US, made the following remarkable evaluations:

“As far as I understand, the two countries’ foreign ministries have reached an agreement on certain issues at some point... I think Israel also has a share in the settlement decision. Because, as all parties involved in the case can clearly see, Israel’s fingerprints are all over the process... They were there at the beginning, and they are there at the end.”

Trump: “If Erdoğan Does Something For Us”

In the context of the silence regarding a terrorist being made Deputy Minister of Defense in Syria and the suspension of the Halkbank case for 90 days and the appointment of what is essentially a trustee to it being presented as a “victory,” if we return to the White House meeting on September 25;

While Trump described the two-hour meeting as “wonderful,” when asked if there would be an agreement on the F-35s, he said, “I could do it easily if I wanted to... Yes, we can do [a deal]. It depends on the situation. If [Erdoğan] does something for us.”

Since Trump wouldn’t even give away his sins without getting something in return; it is obvious that things are being done and more will be done in the next 90 days... I wonder what?!
