The motion extending the mandate for our soldiers in Iraq and Syria for another two years was accepted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on October 17.
Before the motion, former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu emphasized that they did not want foreign soldiers' boots in our country and asked, "WHO ARE THESE FOREIGN FORCES?" Before the deliberations in the TBMM, a banner reading "We do not want foreign soldiers' boots in Turkey" was hung at the CHP Headquarters.
In those days, as much as our pen allowed, we pointed out that what was meant by these "foreign soldiers" was the "Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh" and drew attention to how this force has acted as a patron to the terrorist organization PKK/YPG to this day.
Moreover, the name of this force was explicitly included in both the previous and the latest motion.
The state of the opposition front was a spectacle. Instead of explaining to the nation that the "Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh" is also our adversary, the CHP continued to ask, "Who are these foreign soldiers?"
İYİ Party Spokesperson Kürşat Zorlu argued that they had examined the motion, concluded that there was no such expression as the CHP claimed, and that the phrase "hosting foreign soldiers" was included in the motion for the intervention of NATO elements, stating, "This expression is a necessity when NATO intervention is required in counter-terrorism at the border. For this reason, we are saying yes."
DEVA Party Spokesperson İdris Şahin said they would vote "yes" to the motion, but that the phrase "presence of foreign armed forces" needed to be clarified.
Responding to criticisms during the deliberations in the TBMM, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler provided the information, "A coalition was established to fight against Daesh and similar terrorist structures in northern Syria and Iraq, based on the UN Security Council resolution in 2014 and 2015. We are one of the 80 countries participating in this coalition."
Former Minister of National Defense and AKP Kayseri Deputy Hulusi Akar also said, "There is no question of foreign elements coming to Turkey in any way. This is a requirement of being a member of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh."
LET OUR SOLDIERS BE MARTYRED WHILE THEY PROTECT THE PKK
In a statement he made after the motion was accepted, Akar explained that the term "foreign soldiers" was related to the Coalition to Defeat Daesh and that "member countries cooperate in the use of areas such as personnel, equipment, weapons, vehicles, air bases, ports, and airspace," and spoke as follows:
"After 2019, these are no longer being done either. It is a completely technical situation... When we remove the term 'foreign soldiers' from the motion, we encounter other problems. When you take such a step, you leave the coalition. This means leaving the fight against Daesh. We have neutralized 4,500 Daesh members... While baseless allegations are made about Turkey, which did this, regarding Daesh; what would happen if we were to leave this coalition? Let them think about this. You will both fight against Daesh and not allow the soldiers of the countries that are members of the coalition. Can such a thing happen? Ships, planes, and helicopters may come for refueling or similar technical reasons. There is never a situation where soldiers come and settle down."
LET THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND COME FORWARD!..
It is Erdoğan himself who says that Daesh is an apparatus of the US. While only our soldiers fight hand-to-hand with Daesh and fall as martyrs, US-CENTCOM and the coalition affiliated with it carry out the work of protecting, shielding, training, and arming the PKK/YPG. On top of that, they had made all kinds of supplies from İncirlik and İskenderun until 2019, and now it is said that "ships, planes, and helicopters may come for technical reasons like refueling"!..
But our former Minister of Defense still asks, "What happens if you leave the coalition?" and says that "soldiers coming and settling down is never in question."
They might as well come and manage the PKK/YPG from here too!..
CONTINUING THE ABSURDITY
After the acceptance of the motion, upon Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu sending a message to citizens saying, "I do not accept the article that allows foreign soldiers to come to our country, I protest it!", didn't the Presidential Communications Directorate and AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik say, "Countries that are members of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh cooperate in the use of areas such as personnel, equipment, weapons, vehicles, air bases, ports, and airspace"?!..
Weren't these things "no longer being done after 2019" according to Akar?!
HAMAS-DAESH EQUATION
The motion came and passed amidst this cacophony. Now let's look at the relevance of the Coalition to Defeat Daesh, which Ankara treats like "our own flesh and blood," to the Hamas-Israel war.
US President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that "Hamas is a more dangerous organization than Daesh."
French President Macron, in his meeting with Netanyahu, proposed that "the existing international coalition fighting against Daesh in Iraq and Syria be expanded to include the fight against Hamas in Gaza" and announced that France is ready for this.
Meanwhile, CENTCOM Commander Michael Erik Kurilla, to whom that coalition is attached and who visited the terrorist leader Mazlum Kobani in Syria as soon as he took office, went to Israel. Upon this, while the pro-government media commented, "CENTCOM, the patron of terror, will plan and manage the operation on behalf of the terrorist state of Israel," for some reason, it did not remember that the coalition included in the Iraq-Syria motion is also attached to that "patron of terror"!..
Think about it; Turkey, which is a member of the Coalition to Defeat Daesh, argues that "Hamas is not a terrorist organization, but a liberation and mujahideen group fighting to protect its lands and citizens," while the US, the boss of the coalition, declares that it sees Hamas as more dangerous than Daesh. France, one of the major partners of the coalition, officially proposes that the coalition also fight in Gaza.
There is clearly a preparation. Now let us ask:
What will Ankara, which for some reason never thinks of leaving this coalition despite its patronage of the PKK/YPG, do if Hamas is made a target of the coalition?
Will it stay in the coalition and continue to let them use its bases, and even fight "hand-to-hand" with Hamas just as it did with Daesh; or will it finally be able to say "goodbye" to that coalition?!
Have you heard what the Coalition to Defeat Daesh, which Ankara embraces with all its might, last did for the PKK/PYD, which appears as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)?
It equipped the 120 new so-called military control points that the SDF established on the banks of the Euphrates River with thermal cameras.
These are the "foreign soldiers" who are allowed to use our country's resources through the motion!..
