Since you are at odds with history, what do you say to Attila?!

It was not enough for them to keep the present and the past of the Republic of Turkey at odds for years; now they have set out to create division over Yavuz Sultan Selim and Shah Ismail.

If that is the case, let us go back 1,500 years and recall Attila the Hun. The greatest characteristic of Attila was that he was “one of the most feared enemies of the Western and Eastern Roman Emperors.”

So much so that Greece, for many years, used to describe the protection of Turkey's rights and interests like a “hawk” with the analogy of “Attila.”

That was until the AKP government came to power!..

Before moving on to that story, let us draw attention to a piece of news reported by the government's newspaper, Sabah, in April.

Former Greek Prime Minister and Honorary President of the Socialist International, George Papandreou, visited CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. At the joint press conference held by the two, Papandreou stated that they were proud of Özel and Ekrem İmamoğlu, saying, “This struggle is both your struggle and ours.”

Sabah Newspaper, while labeling these words of Papandreou as a “scandal,” used the phrase “This time he embraced the Greek” for Özel.

PAPANDREU AND ERDOĞAN

Let us say “This is how a lack of memory makes one shoot oneself in the foot” and go back to 2002, the year the AKP came to power and George Papandreou was the Foreign Minister of Greece.

Erdoğan, who could not sit in the Prime Minister's seat due to his political ban, went on a European tour, starting first in Athens.

The Greek leaders of the period, just like those of today, were pursuing armament and were making occupation plans for the islands and islets in the Aegean, where they have now made significant progress.

Prime Minister Simitis, at a joint press conference with Erdoğan, accused Turkey on the issues of Cyprus, the Aegean, and the continental shelf. Erdoğan, who did not respond to almost any of these, said, “We do not see Greece as our historical rival, but as our closest neighbor and the strategic partner of our future.”

It was Foreign Minister Papandreou who summarized the result of the meeting between the two leaders, and he said exactly the following:

“A meeting of historical importance... For the first time in years, we did not meet with Attila...”

Just 2 months later, Papandreou had the audacity to ask Erdoğan that “the new Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), where the AKP holds the majority, re-evaluate the Casus Belli [the decision taken in 1995 to consider Greece's extension of its territorial waters a cause for war] decision.”

Erdoğan's answer? He said, “I will convey this to the Speaker of the Parliament, Bülent Arınç.”

More happened; when Arınç invited the Speaker of the Greek Parliament to Turkey, he received the response, “Lift the Casus Belli, and I will come.”

The lifting of the Casus Belli has been a demand/condition not only of Greece but also of the USA and the EU.

For this reason, the National Security Policy Document, known as the “Red Book,” which determines Turkey's foreign policy under the pretext of negotiations with the EU and includes the 12-mile issue, was changed in 2010, and it was announced that the 12-mile issue was no longer considered a “priority threat.”

Let us share a few more notes from the past regarding the Casus Belli, which Greece constantly brings to the agenda.

In his statement to Greek television before his visit to Athens in December 2017, this time in his capacity as President, Erdoğan spoke about overcoming difficulties and said, “Casus Belli is one of them. We should not provoke these. Let us leave it to our technical staff to work on these in the best way possible. Let us overcome these as well.”

However, Greece passed a law in 2018 extending its territorial waters in the Aegean to 12 miles. Upon this, the Greek Ambassador, who was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was told that the declaration adopted by the TBMM on June 8, 1995, was still valid. AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik also emphasized the following:

“The Greek side should not forget the warning of the Supreme Parliament in 1995. The Republic of Turkey will not hesitate to do what is necessary.”

LOOK AT WHAT OUR “FRIEND” MITSOTAKIS HAS DONE

The AKP's up-and-down relationship with Greece is well known. While Erdoğan was talking about “going to Athens suddenly one night” 3 years ago, Prime Minister Mitsotakis is now his greatest “friend.”

Mitsotakis, who is ignored and unheard no matter what he does or says, is such a friend (!) that he first initiated attempts to prevent Turkey's participation in EU defense programs.

The so-called European defense program is nothing more than new preparations regarding the European Army project, which has also been on the agenda for decades, where Turkey would not be in the decision-making mechanisms and would only be expected to act as Europe's gendarme, but anyway!..

Ultimately, Mitsotakis spilled the beans last week and set the following conditions:

“If Turkey wants to benefit from Europe's defense funds, the legitimate concerns of Greece and Cyprus must be taken into account. To be more specific and clear, 30 years have passed since the TBMM voted on that famous cause for war. I think it is time, after 30 years, to directly ask our Turkish friends to take this issue off the table.”

He also added:

“As you know, I will also tell this to President Erdoğan, with whom we have developed good relations. It is not possible to maintain a decision that threatens a European country with war if it does what is its legal right, while at the same time requesting access to Europe's financial instruments.”

Following this condition by Mitsotakis, a government newspaper ran the headline, “An unacceptable proposal for the Aegean”... A columnist made the assessment, “The atmosphere he tries to create with the messages of friendship he utters when he comes to Turkey or in bilateral meetings, and the embellishments that we will solve the problems between us from now on, is a complete fairy tale... It is a deceit masked by friendship, a camouflaged policy,” but even though a week has passed, not a sound has come from either Erdoğan or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ministry of National Defense sources also only said last week that the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to exclude Turkey from EU defense projects were “doomed to fail,” but not a single word was uttered regarding Mitsotakis' “Casus Belli” condition.

WHAT IS IN THE MGK'S “GLOBAL MANIFESTO”?

The day after Mitsotakis' challenge, the National Security Council (MGK) meeting was held. So, was the issue discussed at this meeting?

Let alone discussing it, a government columnist boasted about the past and present MGK decisions and made the following comparisons in summary:

“For those who want to see closely the change our country, our region, and the world are experiencing, it is enough to look at the latest decisions of the National Security Council dated May 22, 2025, which met under the chairmanship of President Erdoğan... In the past, the main agenda of the MGK consisted of separatist terrorism, reactionism, headscarves, secularism, Imam Hatips, and Quran courses... As external threat focuses, the destabilizing activities of our neighbors such as the Greek Cypriot Administration, Greece, Armenia, Syria, Iraq, and Iran against our territorial integrity, unitary structure, and political unity were listed. We could never cope with them. Or rather, the 'global masters' did not allow us to cope. Naturally, the decisions that came out of the old MGK meetings reflected the picture of a state that was at odds with its government, its institutions, its nation, and its neighbors... However, this picture has now changed one hundred and eighty degrees. In the eight-item latest MGK decisions, the internal threat is almost zeroed out. In the first two items, the good news of a terror-free and prosperous Turkey is given. In the other six items, many topics are listed, extending from our common geography, the Middle East, to the Caucasus, from North and East Africa to Ukraine, from Gaza to Syria, from Israel to Yemen, from Lebanon to Palestine, and to the draft peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Turkey, which solves its own problems, also stands out as a key actor in the crises in the world and our region... In short, no matter how you look at it, Turkey has turned into a global actor and trend in every respect... That is why the latest decisions of the MGK are also the global manifesto of the New Turkey.”

So we defeated the “global masters” and ended the threats of Greece and other countries... Then what is all this happening?

The translation of what is happening is this: it is the ignoring of the great siege carried out by the USA-EU-NATO, it is the management of foreign policy entirely through perception just like domestic policy, in short, it is the abandonment of being Attila!..
