When a French television channel and Ruşen Çakır’s Medyascope published some minutes/notes alleged to be from meetings held between the terrorist leader and the DEM İmralı delegation on July 20 and August 2, we said the following:
“Four days have passed since these were leaked. There is not a peep from the AKP, the MHP, or the Presidential Center for Combating Disinformation. Are they all true, is that why?”
It was not from any of those three, but first from DEM, which essentially said the following:
“There are additions and omissions. These are claims aimed at misleading the public and provoking the process... a dangerous activity directly aimed at sabotaging Mr. Öcalan and the process that has reached an important threshold... No document, note, or information that does not come from us or from the family and lawyers meeting with Mr. Öcalan, and that is not based on an official ground, should be given any credence.”
One day after DEM, the PKK, which is claimed to have been dissolved, announced under the name of “movement management” that the published texts were “fabricated” and that they were a “planned provocation aimed at disrupting the process,” and asked our people to rely on the information provided by DEM and themselves.
Hours after the PKK, the Presidential Center for Combating Disinformation finally announced—without specifying which posts it was referring to—that it had been “determined that an externally sourced and intentional psychological warfare strategy targeting our country’s social unity, brotherhood, and climate of peace has been attempted to be put into effect,” and that “judicial and administrative processes are being applied against centers producing disinformation and provocation with baseless claims,” while warning our “citizens to be sensitive against malicious content and not to allow posts of uncertain origin, and to rely only on official statements.”
It is clear that those “minutes/notes” are being referred to by the phrases “targeting social unity, brotherhood, and climate of peace... Externally sourced psychological warfare.”
Finally, yesterday, the DEM İmralı delegation announced that the terrorist leader had sent the following message:
“The attempts by certain circles trying to derail the process in this historical period are a conspiracy against me. The statements, meetings, names, documents, minutes, and references reflected in the press and social media and attributed to me are unreal. These posts are provocative actions developed by opponents of the process.”
Everything is Already in the Open
Let us assume that all of the aforementioned denials are true.
Fine, but as we pointed out in recent days; did Pervin Buldan, Faik Özgür, Veysi Aktaş, and Tuncer Bakırhan not repeat many of the statements mentioned as being in those “minutes/notes” themselves?
Another example; according to the “minutes/notes,” the terrorist leader had said: “They are organizing a coordination board under the management of the Vice President in the law. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, and intelligence agencies might also be on this board. There will be a ‘disarmament and politicization board’ as a sub-board attached to this Coordination Board. I will also take part in this board in a status that has been clarified.”
Well, did the “National Solidarity and Integration Coordination Board,” which met under the chairmanship of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz the day before yesterday, not decide to establish four separate sub-commissions? And was it not announced that one of these, with a slight change, was the “disarmament and strategic coordination sub-commission”?
Again, according to those “minutes/notes,” what else had the terrorist leader said? In summary, the following:
- “We will take our place in the Constitution. Kurds must transform into a legal subject with the constitution... There will be a Kurdish-Turkish democratic alliance. What we call democratic integration.”
- “If the process progresses, they will not want to keep me here. I will prepare the conditions for my exit myself. It will be such that they will release me themselves. When I will leave here, I will determine... We will work in such a way that a moment will come, and they will tell me ‘you need to leave immediately’.”
- “State officials say, ‘these situations are far behind us. These were the work of a nationalist fascist vein. Today, being Kurdish in Turkey, Kurdish broadcasting, and works of art are very widespread, and there are very beautiful examples of them’.”
- “After the law, there will be a three-T formula. Confirmation, determination, commitment... The state mechanism will do the confirmation. We will make the commitment. One leg will be the MGK (National Security Council), and one leg will be the parliament. The MGK will report, it will say the PKK has laid down its arms. The MGK will make a decision on this and it will go to the parliament. It will proceed with a solid triple mechanism. Commitment is my job. I need to be involved.”
- “I am waiting for the law to be passed. After the law is passed, everyone will hear me. At least as much as the work and sacrifice in the founding of the republic... The door is being opened to the democratic republic to the end... We are taking the first step for a thousand-kilometer journey.”
- “Leftists are also outside the republic. We will also include leftist groups. There is a need for a movement that will meet both their leftism and their republicanism... This is also an opportunity for these leftists, an honorable partnership.”
If these are lies, what were those?
- Did the DEM İmralı delegation itself not announce after the August 2 meeting that the terrorist leader said, “A thousand-kilometer journey begins with one step. With this law, we are setting out to solve a historical problem. We are at the beginning of a democratization process that will be at least as important as the founding of the Republic... The door is being opened to the democratic republic to the end.”?
- Did a newspaper not run the headline two days ago; “Consensus reached on the ‘committing’ formula for Imralı. 3T (confirmation, determination, commitment) formula for the process”?
These were also in the Imralı Notes
Furthermore, do we not know what the terrorist leader thinks and wants from the Imralı Notes belonging to the 2013-2014 opening-up process?
Here are examples:
- Even then, he said, “We are conducting this process to pave the way for the left as well...”
- Even then, he pontificated: “Now they say let Öcalan out, amnesty, etc. First of all, I did not commit a crime that would be pardoned. Secondly, if they told me ‘get out’ this week, this month, I would prefer to stay here. I am a man with a political case and that is why I am here. If I am to get out, this exit will be with political developments... My getting out is not important. I have already gotten out. My meeting with them already means that I am free. Five years ago, I told Emre Taner (former MİT Undersecretary) ‘There is no longer any meaning to my staying here.’ Even if they said ‘get out immediately,’ I would not get out. My situation is not that cheap.”
- Even then, while talking about the “legal dimension” and “monitoring board” and asking for 8 commissions to be established, he said that he and the state delegation would be at the first table...
- Even then, he explained that “a historical alliance is being born, that no one can remain solid in the region without a Turkish-Kurdish unity, that the solution to the Kurdish problem in Turkey is the solution to the problem in Iraq, Syria, and even Iran,” and that what follows this is the “Middle East democratic alliance”...
- And unfortunately, even then, the then-Undersecretary of Public Order, who was conducting the meetings with the terrorist leader, said, “The danger is not only Kurdish nationalism, but also Turkish nationalism at the same time”...
What did Hatimoğulları say in Van?
Let us forget the Imralı Notes... Let us accept that the newly published “minutes/notes” are lies...
Well, where do we put these ravings of DEM co-chair Tülay Hatimoğulları at the funeral held in Van for PKK terrorists the day before yesterday, which equate our citizens of Kurdish origin with the PKK?
“Every life we lost to the soil has carried the 100-year struggle of the Kurdish people to this day and has paid the price for it. Every life we lost to the soil today has planted hope in the soil and grown hope as a soldier of the revolutionary, patriotic, socialist struggle and the struggle of the Kurdish people. This hope has not only grown hopes in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Rojava, and Turkey, but hopes have begun to turn into reality... Weapons will fall silent, conflict and war will end; political and legal struggle will strengthen. As a result of all these prices paid today, the Kurdish problem will no longer be referred to as a ‘terror’ problem. We hope that in the Framework Law, the language, cultural rights, and all the values that the Kurdish people have struggled for for 100 years will now be able to turn into a concrete gain... The Kurdish people have won. As a result of the prices they have paid, the Kurdish people will continue their existence as an honorable people, not only in Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, but all over the Middle East and the world, as a recognized, head-held-high, honorable people.”
“Damn Your Journalism”
Since DEM and PKK openly, and the DMM implicitly, denied the new minutes; let us also remind you who reacted and how when some parts of the meetings from that period were published in Milliyet in 2013 under the name “Imralı records.”
While the then-Prime Minister Erdoğan himself was explaining at the Kuvay-i Milliye Square in Balıkesir that they were working “so that mothers would not cry,” that they were “not involved in any initiative against the nation,” that they “would not give credit to any initiative that would embarrass and victimize the nation,” and that they “would not take any step that would hurt the spirits of our martyrs,” he said the following:
“I ask my dear nation, 70 million. Do not give credence to malicious news, gossip, rumors... As we struggle to solve, there are those who struggle to prevent it from being solved... They appear before you with gossip, rumors, sabotage, provocation, and media operations.”
“Here a newspaper has come out... It gives news from Imralı with the headline it threw... If you have even a tiny bit of love for this country, for this nation, if you want to contribute to this solution process, you cannot run such a story, you should not have run it. This process is a sensitive process... If you are going to do journalism like this, damn your journalism... The claims poured out are a clear sabotage by these circles that do not want terror to end, that do not want a solution. Whatever anyone says, whatever anyone writes, whatever claim, dream, or imagination anyone expresses during the solution process, the nation has the final say.”
Then?
The originals of those records, which Erdoğan called “malicious news, gossip, rumors, sabotage, provocation,” were published as a book by the PKK under the name of the terrorist leader as “building democratic liberation and free life (Imralı notes).”
In short; nothing has changed in the opening-up process. The only thing that has changed is that what has been poured out this time has alarmed the PKK, while Ankara has fallen into a deep silence.
Could it be so that “the nation does not wake up”?!
