Awards to be presented at the 11th Bosphorus Film Festival

The 'Bosphorus Film Festival', which has been continuing its journey since 2013, is currently experiencing the excitement of its national competition.

Following the jury's evaluations, awards will be presented in the categories of Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing.

In addition to the category awards, the Best First Film Award, supported by a cash prize from Akli Film, and the FIYAB Best Producer Award, supported by the Film Producers' Association (FIYAB), will also be presented in the National Competition.

8 FILMS COMPETED FOR THE 'GOLDEN DOLPHIN'

In the National Feature Film Competition, organized annually at the Bosphorus Film Festival to bring new and high-quality films to the audience and to increase the visibility of Turkish Cinema in the national and international sectors, the Golden Dolphin, awarded to the Best Film, will be presented along with a cash prize of 200 thousand TL.

The films that appeared before the audience in the National Feature Film Competition were: İsmail Doruk’s '60 Days', Umut Evirgen’s 'Mother's Lamb', Mesut Keklik’s 'The Region', Tufan Şimşekcan’s 'Ceylin', Yiğit Küçükkibar’s 'A Few Days Before Sunset', Mehmet Demir Yılmaz’s 'Sand Lily', Nursen Çetin Köreken’s 'Three Friends', and Miraç Atabey’s 'A Hero of Our Time'.

Among the films in the National Feature Film Competition, 'The Region', 'A Few Days Before Sunset', 'Sand Lily', 'Three Friends', and 'A Hero of Our Time' held their world premieres, while “60 Days” held its Turkey premiere at the 11th Bosphorus Film Festival.

To support names at the beginning of their directing careers and to pave the way for new films by directors, the “Best First Film Award,” supported by Akli Film, was contested by the debut feature films 'The Region', 'Ceylin', 'A Few Days Before Sunset', and 'A Hero of Our Time'.

In the International Feature Film Competition, the following films were featured: Muayad Alayan’s “A House in Jerusalem”, Marie Amachoukeli’s “Àma Gloria”, Tahmina Rafaella’s “Banu”, James Marsh’s “Dance First”, Abu Bakr Shawky’s “Hajjan”, Behrooz Karamizade’s “Empty Nets”, Domien Huyghe’s “Sea Sparkle”, Bille August’s “The Kiss”, Dmitry Dyachenko’s “The Rage”, and Timm Kröger’s “The Universal Theory”.

The National Short Fiction Competition included: Can Baran’s “Apartment Void”, Sertaç Bozkurt’s “The Shoe”, Mehmet Acaruk’s “Apple”, Resul Aşlak’s “Photograph”, Muaz Güneş’s “A Visit for Good Wishes”, Zeynep İncetekin’s “Blackbird”, Uğur Savaş’s “The Wolf’s Box”, Murat Berber’s “Dwelling”, Leila Norouzi and Eren Uğur’s “Sleep of the Willow”, and Recep Çavdar’s “Clockwork”.

The International Short Fiction Competition featured: Filipino director Sam Manacsa’s “Cross My Heart and Hope To Die”, Iranian director Sonia K. Hadad’s “File”, Greek director Nikos Kyritsis’s “Highway of a Broken Heart”, Croatian director Jasna Safic’s “Late Winter”, French director Mahaut Adam’s “My Little Daddy”, Czech director Damian Vondrasek’s “Rites”, Portuguese director David Da Costa’s “The Death Mess”, Croatian director Andrea Slavicek’s “The Real Truth About the Fight”, Macedonian director Aleksandra Kardalevska’s “The Script”, and Czech director Savva Dolomanov’s “Silhouette”.

10 FILMS IN THE NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION

The National Documentary Competition featured: Enes Hakan Tokyay’s “The Last Known Apocalypse”, Saeid Mayahy and Miriam Carlsen’s “Game Over”, Tuba Deniz’s “The Heart Imagines the Past”, Semih Sağman’s “The Most Beautiful Day of My Life”, Murat Pay’s “Always Thirty”, Seyid Çolak’s “Cat Man”, Ersan Er’s “Forty”, Serhan Doğan’s “Meryem”, Behçet Güleryüz’s “A Strange Sight: The Van Lake Monster”, and Mehmet Güreli’s “A Long Journey Inside the Truth of Cinema: Necip Sarıcı”.

PALESTINIAN FILMS

The 11th Bosphorus Film Festival featured films this year that bring the tragedy experienced in Palestine to the silver screen.

In this section of the festival, the following were presented to the audience: Abdallah Al-Khatib’s “Little Palestine (Diary of a Siege)”; Farah Nabulsi’s “The Teacher”, which was the festival's opening film; Maha Haj’s “Mediterranean Fever”, which won the Best Screenplay award in the 'Un Certain Regard' program at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival; Mohanad Yaqubi’s “R21 aka Restoring Solidarity”; Michel Khleifi’s “Tale of the Three Jewels”; Tewfik Saleh’s “The Dupes”; and Ahmad Saleh’s trilogy consisting of three short films made in 2011, 2016, and 2021, “House – Ayny – Night”.
