A new destination for art lovers: Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum

The museum's founder, Kenan Yavuz, made statements to members of the press at Alaf in Kuruçeşme regarding the museum's content, its founding purpose, and future projects.

Stating that the museum is a social responsibility project, Yavuz said, "The motivation behind the project was the emptying of Anatolian villages, the damage to the architectural fabric, the fact that beauties that should be kept alive are on the verge of disappearing, the cultural transformation accelerated by internal migration beginning to destroy values that belong to us, and, of course, a debt of loyalty to the lands where I was born."

'WE MUST PROTECT OUR HERITAGE'

Noting that they will try to bring the challenges of rural life to the agenda with the museum, and that it consists of 26 spaces built with stone on an area of 24 thousand square meters, Yavuz remarked, "One of our mottos is 'the place where stones speak.' We have been drowned in concrete because we forgot how to talk to stones, and this is crushing our values. The European Union is taking important steps in this regard. As a country, we also need to protect our tangible and intangible heritage. Unfortunately, countless pieces of our heritage are disappearing, and the disconnect between generations is accelerating this deformation."

Stating that they protect original values and structures while conducting tourism activities, Kenan Yavuz added the following:

"For tourism to be sustainable, it needs to spread to every region of Anatolia. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism's 'Culture Road Festivals' project also supports us in this sense. Even though there is no longer a reason to migrate from the village to the city with the provision of physical and economic opportunities, we have to find the answer to the question of 'why are young people still trying to go to the city?'"
