Ahmet Özer visits Kadir İnanır in hospital

Former Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was removed from office and replaced by a government-appointed trustee, paid a morale-boosting visit to Kadir İnanır, one of the most prominent figures in Turkish cinema for many years, at the hospital. Özer, who received information about the health status of the 76-year-old İnanır, shared his thoughts on the visit via his social media account.

In his post, Özer stated, "I visited my dear friend Kadir İnanır. I wish him a long and healthy life."

Furthermore, during the visit, Özer made a special gesture that Kadir İnanır greatly appreciated by signing and gifting the artist a book he had written himself, which also includes an article about İnanır. Stating that they had a sincere conversation about the past, present, and future, Özer also touched upon İnanır's influence on cinema and society.

Noting that he has watched İnanır's films with interest since his youth and that he was very pleased to meet the artist while working as an academic at the university, Özer said he has watched Kadir İnanır's upright stance with honor. Özer expressed his feelings by saying, "On this occasion, it is necessary to dwell on him as an actor, an intellectual, and a brave peace ambassador. Because in these difficult days we are going through, there is a great need for values like Kadir İnanır."

Emphasizing the need for brave people who speak the truth and lead society in the process of peace and democratic change, Özer included the following statements:

“For a democratic change where peace prevails, there is a need for truth, and for speaking the truth, there is a need for brave people... Kadir İnanır is one of those brave people. He gave important and beautiful messages to society through his art. He has received great appreciation as a figure who emerged from the art world with an attitude of not mincing his words and shouting the truth even in the most difficult conditions when people were afraid to speak.”

Özer stated that those who contribute to social peace identify themselves with İnanır and find their own voices in his, and made the following assessments: "In such times, it is important for every segment of society to participate in the process. At this point, those who are in the public eye, opinion leaders, intellectuals, artists, and actors who influence society need to step forward and make their voices heard. As a person who has become a public figure, Kadir İnanır is one of the people who does this. That is why his actions, his words, and his stance have received appreciation."

At the end of his visit, he added the note, "I am glad you exist, my dear friend. Our most fundamental wish is for you to regain your health as soon as possible with the belief in peace and democracy..."
