Aribert Reimann has passed away

German modern Western music and opera composer, pianist, and music teacher Aribert Reimann has passed away at the age of 88.

Reimann was known for his operas based on Shakespeare's "Lear" and Kafka's "Das Schloss (The Castle)."

'CONDOLENCES TO THE MUSIC COMMUNITY'

In his post, Say stated, "I learned of Aribert Reimann’s passing with great sadness. He was one of the most important composers of our time. He had a very special and unique place for me, of course. In 1985, musicians from Germany visited Ankara; Reimann and Levine had listened to young talents, including me. It was the day that changed my whole life; afterwards, they wrote scholarship letters.

With a 4-year DAAD scholarship, they provided great support to my entire education and the beginning of my artistic life when I was still very young. He is irreplaceable; no matter how grateful I am, it is not enough. The kindness they showed me is unique. Reimann was a composer with very sensitive works, important major operas, and exquisite chamber music pieces; he will always live on through his works. May he rest in light. My condolences to the music community."
