Artist Mona Hatoum to give a talk as part of the 'In Your Own Shadow' exhibition

Curated from the Arter Collection, the group exhibition titled In Your Own Shadow is structured around thematic dualities such as internal and external, public and private, presence and absence, memory and forgetting, and space and the body, while exploring the interstitial zones that emerge from the relationships between these concepts.

Bringing together works by 25 artists under the curatorship of Emre Baykal and Gizem Uslu Tümer, the exhibition consists of two complementary sections spanning Arter's entrance and -1 floor galleries.

The artist talk by Mona Hatoum, organized in the context of the group exhibition In Your Own Shadow, which continues at Arter until April 7, 2024, will take place on Thursday evening, February 1, 2024, at 7:00 PM in the Sevgi Gönül Auditorium.

FOCUSES ON THE THEME OF OTHERING AND EXCLUSION

Focusing on themes such as displacement, othering, and exclusion in her works based on her personal experiences, the artist will discuss these subjects that she centers in her artistic practice, the approaches she adopts, and the mediums she uses during her talk.

In her talk, Hatoum will also touch upon the creative process behind her work titled Kapan (Trap), which she produced for her solo exhibition titled Still Here, held at Arter in 2012 under the curatorship of Emre Baykal, and which is also featured in the In Your Own Shadow exhibition.
