Ataköy Baruthane returns to city life

With a history dating back to the 18th century, the Baruthane (Gunpowder Mill), which stands as one of the most significant examples of industrial heritage, is opening its doors as a public living space following restoration and repurposing efforts carried out by İBB Miras.

ABOUT ATAKÖY BARUTHANE

The Ataköy Baruthane is the institution referred to as "Baruthane-i Âmire" in the official records of the Ottoman Empire.

On September 15, 1957, the construction of the Ataköy housing complexes began on the grounds of the gunpowder mill.

The main building of the Baruthane remained abandoned for a long time before undergoing a rough renovation in 1972, after which it was operated for a period as a discotheque under the name "Barut Fıçısı" (Gunpowder Barrel) by the Ataköy Tourist Facilities Management.
