Awards presented at the 77th Cannes Film Festival
The winners of the 77th Cannes Film Festival have been announced. The festival's prestigious Palme d'Or was awarded to American director Sean Baker for his film "Anora." The four lead actresses of the film "Emilia Pérez" made history by sharing the Best Actress award.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival, held in the city of Cannes in the south of France, has concluded.
Many ambitious productions competed for the Palme d'Or during the festival, which took place from May 14 to 25.
JURY SPECIAL PRIZE
This year, the Jury Special Prize was awarded to Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof.
The director, who fled his country, had come to Cannes for the premiere of his film, The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
PALME D'OR
The Palme d'Or at the festival went to the film "Anora." The award was accepted by the film's American director, Sean Baker.
Baker is the first American to win this award since Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, 2011). "Anora" is the director's third film to be screened at Cannes.
BEST DIRECTOR
Miguel Gomes won the Best Director award for his film "Grand Tour."
BEST ACTOR AWARD
American actor Jesse Plemons won the Best Actor award for Yorgos Lanthimos's new film, Kinds of Kindness.
BEST ACTRESS AWARD
A first occurred at this year's Cannes.
The four lead actresses of the film Emilia Pérez shared the "Best Actress" award.
Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz, the stars of the film directed by Palme d'Or-winning director Jacques Audiard, were the recipients of the Best Actress award.
Karla Sofía Gascón accepted the award. The film also won the "Jury Prize."
HONORARY PALME D'OR
George Lucas, the legendary director of the Star Wars series, was the recipient of the Honorary Palme d'Or.
GRAND PRIX
The Grand Prix at the festival went to Payal Kapadia for the film All We Imagine as Light.
BEST SHORT FILM
Director Nebojša Slijepčević won the Best Short Film award at Cannes for his short film "The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent."
Director Daniel Soares won an award in the Best Short Film category for "Bad For a Moment."
