Barbie and Oppenheimer break nomination records at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards, presented annually to the best in the world of television and cinema, are finding their winners. Barbie leads the 2024 Golden Globe Awards with nine nominations, while Oppenheimer follows with eight.

Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things are also among the favorites at the awards, with seven nominations each.

In the TV category, the series Succession, The Crown, and The Last of Us are among the nominees. Succession leads the television nominations with a total of nine, including for best drama series.

Held in Los Angeles, USA, the Golden Globes serve as the first awards ceremony of the film and television awards season, which will culminate with the Oscars on March 10.

The South Korean film Past Lives became the most nominated film among foreign films with a total of five nominations. Barbie's nine nominations include Margot Robbie for best actress in a musical or comedy, Ryan Gosling for best supporting actor, and Greta Gerwig for best director. Barbie also received three nominations for best original song.

Some new categories have been added to the awards, which will be presented for the 81st time this year. One of these is the "cinematic and box office achievement" category, which aims to provide more recognition to films that are popular with the public.

Oppenheimer was also nominated in this category. Nominees in the best actress category, which is divided into Drama and Musical/Comedy, include Emma Stone, Sandra Hüller, Lily Gladstone, and Carey Mulligan; nominees for best actor include Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Bradley Cooper. The host of this year's awards ceremony is American comedian and actor Jo Koy.
