Betül Cüreklibatır: I fell into a depression after Cüneyt

Two years have passed since the death of the master artist, who passed away at the age of 85 on June 28, 2022, due to cardiac arrest.

According to a report on NTV, Betül Cüreklibatır stated that she misses Cüneyt Arkın very much, saying, "I didn't change our home because it holds his memories. I see him everywhere I look. The corner where he sat, the place where he wrote and painted... I chose to live with the memories, but I am in pain."

Pointing out that she and Arkın had a 55-year history together, Cüreklibatır said, "We met on June 1st; June 1st is our anniversary of meeting. We never celebrated wedding anniversaries or anything like that. The day we met was a very important day for us. We lived our childhood, our youth, and our old age together; we shared life together."

Cüreklibatır emphasized that Cüneyt Arkın was a husband who expressed his love very beautifully, adding that Arkın would decorate every corner of their home with daisies on their meeting anniversary, which touched her deeply.

Stating that "we were people who were happy with small things," Betül Cüreklibatır shared Cüneyt Arkın's life philosophy with these words:

"He didn't like ostentation. Those who knew Cüneyt know this. He wouldn't buy anything new until the old one was worn out. He never rode in luxury cars, he didn't live in huge villas. We had a very happy life with him. I miss him so much. He was a very good, extraordinary father. The public's love was very important to him. Not money, not wealth, not fame... I go to his grave and see crowds of people. People put roses on his grave. The love people have for him makes me very happy. He was a man of the people, a patriotic person."

Cüreklibatır also mentioned Cüneyt Arkın's dreams, expressing that he wanted to have a farm and raise animals like goats, sheep, and dogs on it.

Regarding the story of how she met Arkın, Cüreklibatır said, "Our meeting story is very beautiful. We met at a meeting. He liked that I was a quiet person and didn't pay attention to anyone. It was his most famous period. The fact that I didn't pay much attention to him caught his attention. He came up to me and said, 'What's wrong with you, why are you so sad?' After that, we met and we loved each other very much."

Underlining that she went through very difficult times after Arkın's passing, Cüreklibatır said, "I fell into a depression once after Cüneyt, and I received treatment. I dropped down to 40 kilos. It was a terrible thing. Now I am trying to recover. The children were very attached to their father. Thanks to them, I am recovering slowly. I have to recover. I don't want my children to lose me too."
