Comedy and tragedy combined: 'Don Giovanni' opera to be staged at AKM
The 'Don Giovanni' opera, which premiered in recent months by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, will meet art lovers at the Atatürk Cultural Center on March 14 and 16.
The 'Don Giovanni' opera, composed by the Austrian musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and first staged in 1787, has secured its place among the masterpieces of opera literature.
So much so that Richard Wagner claimed that Don Giovanni was the 'opera of all operas.'
Described as a dark comedy with a libretto penned by the brilliant librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, the opera was born from the combination of Mozart's genius with the display of the best and worst of human nature, spiritual and worldly desires, and comedy and tragedy.
'Don Giovanni' will now be staged at the Atatürk Cultural Center on March 14 and 16.
In the production directed by Aytaç Manizade, the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra is conducted by İbrahim Yazıcı.
The set design is by Efter Tunç, costume design by Serdar Başbuğ, and lighting design by Kemal Yiğitcan. The chorus master of the work is Volkan Akkoç, and the movement design belongs to Alper Marangoz.
