Doyen of Classical Turkish music Ömer Erdoğdular has passed away
Ney player Ömer Erdoğdular, who had been under treatment for some time due to an illness, has passed away at the age of 75.
Master ney player Ömer Erdoğdular had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Göztepe Süleyman Yalçın City Hospital for more than a month.
Erdoğdular lost his battle for life.
In a statement regarding the artist's passing on its social media account, TRT Müzik said, "We wish God's mercy upon ney player Ömer Erdoğdular, one of our country's precious artists, who served in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Classical Turkish Music Choir and enabled many people to recognize and love the ney through his concerts both at home and abroad, and we extend our condolences to his family and loved ones."
WHO IS ÖMER ERDOĞDULAR?
Born in Konya in 1949, Ömer Erdoğdular received his first ney lessons from his father, Mehmet Ali Bey.
Erdoğdular participated in the activities of the Istanbul University Turkish Music Choir for a period and performed concerts with the choir.
Erdoğdular, who served in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Classical Turkish Music Choir from 1984 to 1987, later retired in 2015 from the Istanbul Classical Turkish Music Ensemble, where he had begun working.
