Elif Shafak to deliver opening address at Frankfurt Book Fair this year
Elif Shafak will deliver the opening address on October 15 at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which began in 1976 and is considered the largest book fair in the global publishing industry.
Elif Shafak, who has published more than twenty works, including 13 novels, and whose books have been translated into more than 50 languages worldwide, was elected a fellow and vice-president of the Royal Society of Literature in 2019. She was also named one of the '100 most inspiring and influential women' by the BBC in 2019.
Human rights, freedom of expression, identity, LGBTQ+ rights, and women's rights play an important role in Elif Shafak's novels, and works such as The Island of Missing Trees, 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World, The Forty Rules of Love, and The Architect's Apprentice are recognized by many readers around the world and have received numerous international awards.
