Events taking place at the Atatürk Cultural Center between February 19-25
The Atatürk Cultural Center will host numerous special theater performances, operas, exhibitions, and concerts between February 19 and 25.
'The Taming of the Shrew' will be performed at the AKM Theater Hall, while the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will present the opera 'Maometto II', which will premiere on February 24, at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall.
DERVİŞ - STATE FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE
FEBRUARY 20 - 20:00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL
The 'Derviş' (Dervish) performance, which tells the story of Yunus Emre's quest for love, passion, and truth, will be presented to art lovers by the State Folk Dance Ensemble at the AKM Theater Hall.
In the 'Derviş' performance, which conveys the hymns and folk songs of peace and friendship, and the rise of Yunus—who set out as an Anatolian peasant before entering the Taptuk Dervish Lodge—through his maturing love for God and Islamic mysticism, music and dance transform into poetry, finding a soul and gaining an aesthetic dimension.
The work, with a script by Prof. Dr. İskender Pala, will be staged with choreography by artistic director Yıldız Çankaya. Actor Poyraz Deniz Genç brings Yunus Emre to life in the 'Derviş' performance.
OUR NATIONAL MUSIC ‘CEMAL REŞİT REY – YALÇIN TURA’ - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALLET

As part of the 'Our National Music' concert series, the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet is organizing a special concert consisting of works by Cemal Reşit Rey and Yalçın Tura, two important composers raised during the Republican era, on Tuesday, February 20, at 20:00 at the AKM Theater Hall. Soprano Anna Sirel Yakupoğlu, tenor Serkan Bodur, and pianist Hüseyin Kaya will perform at the concert.
THE COLOR OF VOICES AND INSTRUMENTS - ISTANBUL STATE TURKISH MUSIC ENSEMBLE

The Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble's 'The Color of Voices and Instruments' concert will meet the audience on February 21 at the AKM Theater Hall. The concert, featuring soloists Canan Sezgin Geylan and Yahya Geylan, is directed by Ferruh Yarkın.
ISTANBUL STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA DENİZBANK CONCERTS
FEBRUARY 23 - 20:00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL
In this week's concert by the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, works by the important Romantic-era composers Paganini and Wagner will be performed. Following Paganini's 'Violin Concerto No. 1', performed by Mario Hossen, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Can Okan, will perform preludes from Wagner's 'Tristan and Isolde' and 'Parsifal'.
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW - ISTANBUL STATE THEATER

William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew', to be staged by the Istanbul State Theater, will meet the audience at the AKM Theater Hall on February 23-24-25. Directed and dramatized by Yücel Erten, the play explores the marriage adventures of Signor Battista's shrewish elder daughter Katerina and his gentle younger daughter Bianka.
MAOMETTO II - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALLET - PREMIERE
FEBRUARY 24 - 20:00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL
The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet is preparing to stage G. Rossini's famous work 'Maometto II'. The premiere, which will take place on Saturday, February 24, at 20:00 at the Türk Telekom Opera Hall, tells the love story of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the seventh sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
The opera, which will be brought back to art lovers after a 34-year hiatus, features Burak Bilgili and Zafer Erdaş (Maometto II), and Dilruba Bilgi and Gülbin Günay (Anna) in the lead roles.
ŞEVKİ KARAYEL PIANO RECITAL - COFFEE CONCERTS
FEBRUARY 24 - 11:00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL LOWER FOYER
Internationally acclaimed pianist Şevki Karayel's piano recital will meet the audience on February 24 as part of the Atatürk Cultural Center Coffee Concerts. The concert includes Bach/Busoni's 'Chaconne', Beethoven's 'Appassionata' sonata, and Franz Liszt's 'Mephisto Waltz'.
AMADEUS
FEBRUARY 25 - 19:30 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL
Written by Peter Shaffer, 'Amadeus', the unique story of the unforgettable composers of world music history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, will be brought to the stage at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall on February 25.
Continuing to meet theater lovers under the direction of master director Işıl Kasapoğlu, 'Amadeus' stars Selçuk Yöntem (Antonio Salieri) and Tansu Biçer (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) in the lead roles.
