Excavations at Arsameia resume after 54 years
Excavation work at the Arsameia Archaeological Site, located in the Kahta district of Adıyaman, has resumed after being paused in 1970.
Adıyaman Museum Director Mehmet Alkan stated in his announcement that the Arsameia Archaeological Site, located on the route to Mount Nemrut, is the area where the summer palace of the Commagene King was situated, and that excavation work has resumed after 54 years.
Alkan noted that the work is being carried out by the Museum Directorate with a team of 10 people, saying, "In the excavation work, we are uncovering the walls of the palace section. In the coming period, we plan to uncover the areas and structures where 10 thousand people lived during that era."
'THERE ARE INSCRIPTIONS'
Stating that they plan to obtain data that will shed light on history as a result of the excavation work, Alkan added, "There are many handshake scenes and inscriptions in this area. We invite domestic and foreign tourists to see this site."
