Exhibition opened in memory of painter Şenol Yorozlu: 'Kaftans'

The opening of the exhibition titled 'Kaftans' was attended by well-known figures from the art world, including Şenol Yorozlu’s wife Rahşan Anter, as well as Gülten Kaya, Ayşe Semiha Baban, Server Demirtaş, Sezen İslimyeli, Tan Oral, Tunç “Turbo” Dindaş, Genco Gülan, Doğan Paksoy, Ahmet Soysal, Can Aytekin, Denizhan Özer, Uğur Mine Tamay, Meriç Hizal, Kerim Zapsu, and Meryem Arıcan.

Brieflyart, which hosted the final solo exhibition of master artist Şenol Yorozlu (1950-2023) in January 2023 before we lost him on July 19, 2023, is now bringing the exhibition titled “Kaftans,” organized in his memory, to art lovers.

The exhibition consists of a selection from the striking “Kaftans” series, which is considered among the artist’s masterpieces and stems from a controversial synthesis of a traditional image etched in memory and the brand-new content of current phenomena under the dominance of consumer culture.

'RE-QUESTIONS ITS VALUE'

Art writer and critic Nilgün Yüksel, who penned the catalog essay for the “Kaftans” exhibition, stated: "Yorozlu reverses the image of power and value in his kaftans. He evolves the kaftan, a symbol of power, majesty, and value, onto paper; thus, into something fragile, light, and ordinary in the eyes of people. He shrinks its gargantuan size.

He re-questions its value and reminds us that it can be variable. However, while doing this, he does not bury the kaftan in history; on the contrary, while showing the vitality of the image living in the collective unconscious, he identifies it solely with the concept of power."
