February program for Atlas 1948 announced

Located in Beyoğlu and hosting film festivals, national cinema, new releases, as well as performing arts and concerts with its renovated digital infrastructure, Atlas 1948 will bring together art lovers this month with workshops, film readings, a special film selection, romantic cinema vibes for Valentine's Day on February 14, new releases like 'Lohusa', and the play 'Şakşakçılar'.

February program for Atlas 1948 announced

Atlas 1948's special film selections include: The Teachers' Lounge (Das Lehrerzimmer), İlker Çatak's film competing for Germany in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars; I, Tonya, a 3-time Golden Globe nominee; Io Capitano (Kaptan Benim), the new film by Matteo Garrone—director of Gomorrah, Dogman, and Pinocchio—which won 12 awards in Venice, including Best Director; The Zone of Interest, which focuses on the daily life of a German family living next to the Auschwitz camp during the war; and Old Boy, which tells the story of a man's quest for revenge after being held captive for years.

The 2012 Palme d'Or winner Amour, renowned director Krzysztof Kieslowski's cult film A Short Film About Love, and the romantic comedy Bridget Jones's Diary will bring romance to Atlas 1948 for three days for Valentine's Day on February 14.

Additionally, the special film selections will feature Lohusa, which tells the funny events that happen to a new mother and father during their first 40 days; the animated film Jungle Bunch: World Tour (Les As de la Jungle 2); and The Tale of Princess Kaguya, based on the Japanese folktale The Bamboo Cutter, all of which can be watched at Atlas 1948 throughout February.

WORKSHOPS FOR LITTLE ONES

The Istanbul Cinema Museum continues its workshops for children at full speed throughout February. The "Traces Left Behind" workshop, taking place on Saturday, February 10, is a workshop where participants illustrate the associations the museum and its collection create in their minds following a special guided tour for children.

On Sunday, February 11, in the "World of Costumes and Creation Workshop," child participants will design masks or costumes inspired by film characters. On Saturday, February 17, in "Discovering the Moving Image," children will experience the construction process of the Zoetrope, an optical device used in past years as an optical toy that contributed to the birth of cinema.

On Sunday, February 18, in the "Journey to Colorful Worlds with Gulyabani" workshop, young participants will illustrate the Gulyabani statue located on the digital floor under the guidance of a guide, improving their skills in using various materials.

FILM READINGS

Impressive film readings are also included in Atlas 1948's February program. Film Reading with Kemal Akçay: "How to Read a Film" awaits participants on February 17 at 15.00, and Film Reading with Mehmet Sindel: "Roma" awaits on February 11 at 14.00.

ŞAKŞAKÇILAR (THE CLAPPERS)

Atlas 1948 also hosts unique theatrical performances. "Şakşakçılar," written by French author Fred Radix and directed by and starring Çağlar Çorumlu, will be staged at Atlas 1948 on February 22 at 20.00.

The play tells the story of the years when Paris theaters achieved success thanks to 'clappers' (claqueurs) tasked with mixing into the audience and ensuring applause at the right time.
