Festival bringing together tattoo enthusiasts to be held in Istanbul

The most significant surprise of the festival will be the traditional tattoos known as 'dek,' which are primarily applied by women in the Southeastern Anatolia Region on their hands and faces for aesthetic purposes.

In addition, those attending the festival will have the opportunity to listen to and watch a tattoo seminar by renowned anthropologist Ahmet Yavuklu.

Women from the Southeast who practice tattooing say that, just as they learned from their elders in their youth, they would mix the breast milk of new mothers with wood soot to create the ink, which they would then apply to their hands, faces, and legs with needles in an attempt to win the hearts of young men in their villages.

The elderly women from the Southeast, who used to create these tattoos for totemic, protective, or luck-bringing purposes, will perform tattooing using traditional methods for enthusiasts on Friday at 15:00.

The 6th 'Istanbul Tattoo Convention' will feature famous tattoo artists from many parts of the world, including the USA, Brazil, Russia, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany, some of whom have tattooed Hollywood stars.

With the participation of well-known tattoo artists from many cities across Turkey, the 'Istanbul Tattoo Convention' will feature tattoo competitions in various categories, creative workshops, seminars, and exhibitions, allowing attendees to follow the latest trends and techniques in the industry.
