Haldun Dormen: 'At first, there were those who tried very hard to sabotage me'

Haldun Dormen, a living legend of Turkish theater, is celebrating the 70th anniversary of his artistic career this year. Making candid remarks, Dormen said, "At first, there were those who tried very hard to sabotage me. There were those who asked, 'He's a rich kid, what is he doing in this theater business?' There were even those who said, 'You are incompetent.' But I didn't give up."

Haldun Dormen: 'At first, there were those who tried very hard to sabotage me'

Haldun Dormen, who became a legend in the theater world he stepped into at just 20 years old with his perseverance, belief, inexhaustible energy, and the 'Dormen School' he created, says that what has motivated him most throughout his artistic career of over 70 years is his love for people:

"Because I love people, I really enjoy exciting them. Making them happy, making them laugh makes me very happy. And sharing all of this with people. I love sharing everything with people."

'I DIDN'T GIVE UP'

The master artist, who says he felt like giving up a few times when he first started out, said, "But I didn't give up. Because at first, there were those who tried very hard to sabotage me. Things like, 'He's a rich kid, what is he doing in this theater business?', 'You're incompetent anyway!', and such nonsense. But then I closed one ear and one eye and continued. I'm glad I did."

'WHEN I PARTED WAYS WITH HIM...'

The veteran theater actor Haldun Dormen, who says the role he enjoyed playing the most was Prince Mikhail in 'Şahane Züğürtler' (Tovarich), explained the reason for this with the words: "Because that man was very similar to me. He had the same feelings I did. I played it more or less 650 times. When I parted ways with him, it was like parting ways with a dear friend."

The master artist, who puts young people to shame with his energy, continues to provide training, and has even written a book titled 'I Don't Have Time to Get Old', used the expressions: "That's how my life is. I have no tolerance for slowness in life. I try to speed up the slow people around me, too. Even at this age..."
