He passed away in 2015: The life of Levent Kırca is becoming a documentary

Comedian Levent Kırca, who for many years used sketches to depict the difficulties of social life on television screens with his program 'Olacak O Kadar', succumbed to liver cancer in 2015.

It has been learned that the life of the satire master Kırca will be the subject of a documentary.

The director of the documentary, which is currently in the preparation phase, Selçuk Metin, said the following in his statement to 12punto:

"The documentary will be produced by BKM. We have received permission from Kırca's family. Family members will also appear in the documentary. This project of ours will be 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Kırca's previously unknown and overlooked aspects have also been covered. Our negotiations with digital platforms are ongoing."

'THE POLICE CAME TO ME MANY TIMES'

Before he died, Levent Kırca had noted the following in his statement to BBC Turkish radio regarding his program "Olacak O Kadar":

"This was a television program. Its foundation necessarily required a social-content humor structure and a need to convey a message. We are the first comedy group on television to play out coups, the military, and the police. No one satirized the police and law enforcement as much as I did. The police came to me many times and gave me a plaque. This is a very nice thing.

I played out military coups many times, and it was an untouchable point. When I played it, the world was shaken. People were falling over laughing. When we encountered generals, they would say, 'Well done.'"

WHO IS LEVENT KIRCA?

Levent Kırca (September 28, 1950, Ladik, Samsun - October 12, 2015, Istanbul) was a Turkish comedian, theater, and film actor. He served as a columnist for Aydınlık Newspaper and as a member of the Central Executive Board of the Vatan Party. The artist had 4 children, two from his first marriage and two from Oya Başar.

He first appeared on stage in 1964 at the Ankara State Theater. He worked at the Ankara Birlik Theater and Halk Oyuncuları. He produced television series such as Nasreddin Hoca, Oyun Treni, Siz Olsaydınız Ne Yapardınız?, Bu Oyun Nasıl Oynanmalı?, Sağlık Olsun!, and Ne Olur Ne Olmaz?.

In 1978, he transitioned to cinema with the film titled Altınşehir. He acted in films titled Ne Olacak Şimdi? and Mavi Muammer. He founded the theater group called Hodri Meydan Topluluğu. Together with his ex-wife Oya Başar, he performed the plays "Güzel ve Çirkin" and "Sefiller". He performed the plays Üç Baba Hasan and Kadıncıklar. He prepared the television program Olacak O Kadar, which began in 1988 and lasted for 22 years. He made his first attempt at film directing with the movie Son. Later, he directed the film titled Şeytan Bunun Neresinde.

He is one of the rare Turkish artists to have a statue in the Saint Petersburg Wax Museum, and in 2011, he began the comedy series titled Karımın Dediği Dedik Çaldığı Kontrbas, but because it could not achieve ratings, the series lasted 4 episodes and ended.

He served as a faculty member at Beykent University Faculty of Fine Arts, and Levent Kırca ran for Mayor of Üsküdar from the Democratic Left Party for the March 2009 Municipal Elections; however, he placed 4th and did not win.

Starting in 2011, he worked as a columnist for the Aydınlık newspaper, and in January 2013, he assumed the role of General Manager of Ulusal Kanal, and later the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors, and finally, he announced his candidacy for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from the Workers' Party in the Local Administration Elections held on March 30, 2014. He received 15,232 (0.2%) votes and placed 8th.

He passed away at 02:40 on the night of October 12, 2015, at the Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital, where he was receiving chemotherapy treatment due to liver cancer. His funeral was laid to rest in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following the funeral prayer held at Levent Mosque on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
