Hierapolis can now be visited at night
Night museum operations have been introduced in Pamukkale, the 'white paradise' in Denizli, one of Turkey's most popular tourism centers.
SICPA Turkey General Manager Sami Çebi stated at the promotional meeting for the night museum project at the Hierapolis archaeological site, held in the ancient theater of the Hierapolis Ancient City in Pamukkale, that they have been carrying out the task of developing operations and ticket sales channels for more than 70 museums and archaeological sites across the country since 2018.
Çebi said, "We have illuminated our ancient city with a project that lasted two and a half months. This is a very large area of 50 thousand decares. We have illuminated a portion of it."
Pamukkale University Archaeology Department Head and Laodicea Ancient City Excavation Team Head Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek also noted that two of the world's 10 most beautiful formations are located in Turkey, namely Cappadocia and Pamukkale.
'A HOT GEOGRAPHY'
Stating that there is no other place where natural travertine areas and archaeological beauties merge in this way, Şimşek spoke as follows:
"After Ephesus, the Hierapolis Archaeological Site is the second site to have night lighting installed. Of course, this geography is a very hot geography. Those who come to see this beauty, especially visitors who will come here to cool off on hot evenings, will also ensure that tourism is moved to a higher level."
Şimşek added that they would begin excavation and restoration work in Hierapolis with a large team, spread across all 12 months of the year.
