İlber Ortaylı: Turkish is the easiest language in the world to pronounce

Speaking at the Republic in its 100th Year panel, İlber Ortaylı stated during his address at the ASKİ Atatürk Sports Hall that Turkishness is a living identity.

''EVERY PERSON IS A FELLOW CITIZEN, EVERYONE IS A CITIZEN''

Explaining that Turkey is not a racist country, Ortaylı said, "We do not pay much attention to where our people come from or what they are. We do not know, and we do not want to know. For us, every person who speaks Turkish, loves Turkey, serves it, and knows how to get along with the people of the city they live in is a fellow citizen. Everyone is a citizen; do not forget this characteristic of ours."

''TURKISH IS THE EASIEST LANGUAGE TO PRONOUNCE''

Reminding that Turkey adopted the Latin alphabet in 1928, Ortaylı noted the following:

"We are not the first to adopt it. Albania, among Muslim countries, had done so. There were also those among Turkic states who did, but we adopted it in the most accurate way. Because Turkish cannot be written with 2.5 vowels. Now, the Turkish of some of our young women and the male friends who follow them is returning to the old form because they speak by swallowing all these vowels. Let me state clearly that such a Turkish cannot exist. Turkish is the easiest language in the world to pronounce. Because it is pronounced between the lips and teeth, once you learn it, you can pronounce every foreign language perfectly."

The event was attended by Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, mayors of some districts, and citizens. At the end of the panel, flowers were presented to Ortaylı.
