John Lennon's acoustic guitar sold for $2.85 million

The guitar, which belonged to Scottish guitarist Gordon Waller and was gifted to a tour manager at the end of a tour, was found years later by a British couple while they were moving into their new home, leading them to decide to put it up for auction.

The guitar was put up for sale at an auction organized by Julien's Auctions in New York, USA, with an opening price between 485 thousand pounds and 647 thousand pounds.

The guitar was purchased on Wednesday by the Hard Rock Cafe in New York as part of a two-day auction held by Julien's Auctions this week.

'WE ARE VERY EXCITED'

David Goodman, director of Julien's Auctions, said, "We are absolutely thrilled to have set a world record with the sale of John Lennon's lost Hootenanny guitar."

Goodman also added, "This guitar is not just a piece of music history, but a symbol of John's enduring appeal."
