The legendary series returns: Matrix 5 officially announced

The Matrix film, which broke box office records worldwide when it was released in 1999, became one of the most notable series in the cinema world with its sequels: The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and finally The Matrix Resurrections, which met audiences in 2021.

Now, this series is continuing with a fifth film.

The series, which was directed by Lana Wachowski for all four films, is this time entrusted to Drew Goddard, known for productions such as The Martian, Cloverfield, and World War Z.

WILL THE STARS OF THE SERIES RETURN?

There is no clear information yet on whether the stars of the series, Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Jada Pinkett-Smith, will return.

Goddard, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2016 for the film The Martian, is noted for starting his writing career on the 90s series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and subsequently moving on to series such as Angel, Alias, and Lost.

He is also the creator of Daredevil, which aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, and the executive producer and director of the popular NBC comedy series The Good Place.

Warner Bros. Motion Pictures production president Jesse Ehrman made the following statements regarding the subject:

"Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe will be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly started 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love for the series.

The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is excited for Drew to make this new Matrix film and add his own vision to the universe the Wachowskis have built here at the studio over a quarter of a century."
