MeToo movement back in the spotlight following Harvey Weinstein ruling

The 2020 conviction of film producer Harvey Weinstein, who was found guilty of sexual assault against many female stars in the film industry, has been overturned by a New York court.

Tarana Burke, the founder of the 'MeToo' movement—which was formed by women sharing their experiences with Weinstein's harassment and subsequently spread across the world—made statements indicating that she would revitalize the movement.

'WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE'

Burke stated, "While the New York Court of Appeals' decision is disappointing, we are not deterred. We will continue to build this movement by organizing and advocating for survivors of sexual assault. Defending survivors means prioritizing victim-centered approaches and holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their influence or access to money.

We stand in solidarity with the survivors of this case; no matter the outcome, ultimately we will win. We have an unwavering commitment to the fact that the movement to end sexual violence (MeToo) is an active, ready, and going-nowhere movement."

The MeToo movement began with the Weinstein allegations, and later, victims of many similar incidents used this social media hashtag to share their experiences.
