Michelangelo's secret room in Italy to open to visitors
The secret room of Renaissance Italian artist Michelangelo Buonarroti in the city of Florence will be opened to visitors. The number of visitors allowed into the room will be limited to 100 per week.
According to reports in the Italian press, the room of Michelangelo, a leading painter, sculptor, and architect of his time, which was discovered 48 years ago in the Medici Chapels in Florence and described as his "secret hideout," is preparing to open to the public.
The room, which is said to contain charcoal sketches on its walls attributed to Michelangelo, will be open to visitors who book in advance between November 15, 2023, and March 30, 2024. Only 4 people will be able to enter the room at a time.
'100 PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO VISIT PER WEEK'
The number of visitors allowed into the room will be limited to 100 per week, and the duration of stay in the room will not exceed 15 minutes.
It has been claimed that Michelangelo, who lived between 1475 and 1564, built this room for himself to escape the wrath of Pope Clement VII of the time and stayed there for a while.
The secret room was discovered during cleaning work during a restoration in 1975 and had been opened to visitors from time to time.
Before 1975, Michelangelo's secret room was used as a storage area under the Medici Chapels.
