Muhsin Ertuğrul commemorated at his graveside on the 45th anniversary of his death

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) City Theatres founder Muhsin Ertuğrul was commemorated at his graveside on the 45th anniversary of his death.

İBB City Theatres General Artistic Director Ayşegül İşsever, in her speech at the commemoration ceremony, said, "I would have hoped for a larger crowd here on this anniversary. Our theatre has reached this point today through immense effort."

'WE UNDERSTAND HIS PLACE BETTER'

Former General Artistic Director and Chief Dramaturg of the City Theatres Hilmi Zafer Şahin also stated the following:

"What would have happened if there were no Muhsin Ertuğrul? Without him, could theatre have become institutionalized? Could theatre schools have been opened? Could art structures where knowledge, experience, and talent come together have been created? Could the state's or local governments' perspective on theatre have been established?

Despite all the problems faced by theatre artists, could their security have set an example through the State Theatres and City Theatres? When we look at the protection of authors' copyrights, the fact that every profession in theatre found an identity and a name, and what private theatres mean for this country, I think we might understand Muhsin Ertuğrul's place better when we look at the entirety of his work."

'WE ARE HIS CHILDREN'

Actor Hüseyin Köroğlu pointed out that Muhsin Ertuğrul was one of the founders of contemporary Turkish theatre, stating, "As his children, we are doing our best, and will continue to do so, to pass on the contemporary torch he entrusted to us to the generations after us..."
