Müjdat Gezen falls ill on stage and is hospitalized: Perran Kutman cries backstage

During the performance, an audience member who stated they could not see the stage clearly climbed onto the stage and directly confronted Müjdat Gezen. Following this intervention, a brief period of chaos occurred in the theater, and the master artist Gezen fell ill.

Uğur Dündar made the statement regarding Gezen's health status. Announcing that the first intervention for Gezen was performed at the hospital, Dündar stated, "They greatly upset the grand old man of our theater, Müjdat Gezen, this evening. The first intervention was performed at the hospital. Hopefully, we will be in front of our audience with the full cast tomorrow (today)."

In a statement made by the Gırgıriye Theater Team, it was reported that the play was postponed to a later date, taking Müjdat Gezen's health status into consideration following the incident.

The statement included the following remarks:

“During our theater play titled Gırgıriye, which was being performed at the Istanbul Congress Center on April 21 at 20:30, the stage order was disrupted when an audience member who stated they could not see the stage clearly climbed onto the stage and entered into a direct argument with our esteemed artist Müjdat Gezen. During this unexpected and distressing incident, Mr. Müjdat Gezen fell ill; following the developments, it was decided to postpone the play, taking our artist's health status into account and in order to ensure audience safety.

The nature and timing of the intervention in question have brought up the possibility of a provocation beyond the disruption experienced during the organization process. Necessary evaluations regarding the matter are being made, and the process is being followed meticulously.

The theater stage is a special space that maintains its existence based on mutual respect and trust between the artist and the audience. Violating these boundaries has negatively affected not only the flow on stage but also the experience of all our audience members in the hall.

We apologize to all our audience members, especially our valued viewers who were with us that evening; we respectfully inform the public that information regarding the new date of the play will be shared as soon as possible.”
