As a result of price hikes accompanying high inflation, another increase has hit theater tickets.
According to data shared by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the cost of living increase for May was announced at 3.5%.
Accordingly, the 5-month cost of living increase was 27.28%, while annual inflation reached 95.37%.
With price hikes reaching up to 150%, theater tickets have become the champion of price increases.
‘THEY SAY THE TURKISH ECONOMY IS GOOD, BUT…’
Sharing his views on the matter with 12Punto, Müjdat Gezen stated, "The theater season is currently closed. Theater has now been made a luxury for people. Everything is expensive, and theater is expensive too. Hike after hike. They still say the Turkish economy is good, but that is not the case. Theater should be more accessible, and its healing power should not be ignored. If it is ignored, it is not possible for another branch of art to fill that void."
