The book "The Mummy Awakens: Ancient Egyptian Tales," consisting of five stories by the author who brings Ancient Egypt together with today's life through historical figures, ancient texts, and poems, has been published by Can Yayınları.

The work by Naguib Mahfouz, one of the respected novelists of Arabic literature, has met with readers in a translation by Mehmet Hakkı Suçin.

Consisting of five stories titled 'The Blessed Evil', 'The Forgiveness of Pharaoh Userkaf', 'The Mummy Awakens', 'The Return of Sinuhe', and 'A Voice from the Other World', the book deals with a mummy disturbed in its tomb who awakens in the 20th century in a state of rage.

WHO IS NAGUIB MAHFOUZ?

Born in Cairo in 1911, Mahfouz is the first Arab writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (1988). He was the youngest child of a wealthy family.

He studied philosophy at Cairo University. He retired from his position as undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture in 1971 and began writing for the al-Ahram newspaper.

Interested in literature at a young age, Mahfouz read the works of English and French writers.

In addition to nearly forty novels, he has seven story collections, over thirty screenplays, and several plays.

Mahfouz's books, which were occasionally banned, have been translated into many languages. The author passed away on August 30, 2006.
