Önder Baloğlu to conduct the Turkish Concerto
Violinist Önder Baloğlu will perform with the Les Essences Chamber Orchestra, which he founded, at the CSO Ada Ankara Historical Hall on April 17.
Turkish-German violinist Önder Baloğlu will take the stage at the CSO Ada Ankara Historical Hall on April 17 with his own orchestra, Les Essences, following his concert last January accompanied by the CSO and Reinhard Goebel.
During the concert, Baloğlu will perform Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, known as the 'Turkish Concerto,' as both the soloist and conductor of the orchestra.
In this special concert, the audience will witness a musical narrative of 'The European Journey of Coffee,' featuring rare works that demonstrate the influence of Ottoman music on European music.
SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCE
The fact that Baloğlu will perform works where German and Turkish cultures intersect in Turkey with his orchestra—which he founded in Germany and which is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science—holds symbolic significance.
Baloğlu, who served as concertmaster at the Duisburger Philharmoniker and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf-Duisburg) for many years, has performed as a soloist and music director across Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
Furthermore, Baloğlu, who teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in the Netherlands and the Folkwang University of the Arts in Germany, continues to perform his concerts using a 250-year-old Antonio Gragnani violin.
