Orhan Kemal commemorated by his fans on his 110th birthday

The program held at the Orhan Kemal Museum in honor of the author, whose works hold an important place in Turkish literature, was attended by his family, fans, and friends, as well as figures from the literary world.

Orhan Kemal's son, Işık Öğütçü, said in his opening speech, "Orhan Kemal is the writer of the streets, the writer of the people. That is why his birthday should also be on the street. We are all here together. We are together heart to heart. He is an important name in Turkish literature. He is a writer in whom we find much of ourselves. However, we were able to open his museum 30 years later and create an environment for the family to meet here. I am very happy in that respect. Orhan Kemal's works will remain in all of our hearts."

Actress Nur Sürer also stated that the first film adaptation she worked on in 1979 was Orhan Kemal's "Bereketli Topraklar," saying, "Our film could not be shown very much. I watched it for the first time in a cinema in Taksim after it was restored.

I still want to say that it is, in my opinion, one of the best labor films ever made in Turkish cinema.

Our director was very good. Artists, writers, and illustrators will never be forgotten. We will die. Many people will still be reading Orhan Kemal."

The program concluded with a "Songs of Orhan Kemal" recital by tenor Aykut Yılmaz.
